Interviews: Summer Lake Heroes

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Pop Punk band Summer Lake Heroes, from France. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Thom: Actually, we wanted a name that would be easy to pronounce for French people, with simple words, and which would represent our music. We've thought about names like Teenage Alien Nation, Paper Kids, Heroes of the Ocean...  We liked the idea of "Heroes" and "Water" but we wanted something rather original. Then Tom came up with Summer Lake. We all loved this idea, because it sounded funny and sunny but with a hidden meaning. Few people know that Summer Lake is a lake on the Moon. So we added Heroes and this is how the story began.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Jeremie: Well we all grew up when the US punk rock appeared. It's something that has good vibes for us. We really like melodies either for the music or the vocals. So I think that's why we play that genre of music.

Johan: Some of us grew up with Green Day and the others with Sum 41. Hey, and Cam is growing with 5 Seconds of Summer..!

Camille: ahah he just killed me! I don't know this band but I have to confess I’m the baby of the band!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Johan: Tony and I have been friends for many years. We had a metal band in high school. We were haired, we were terrible, and now...

Tony: ...we only have less hair than 10 years ago!

Camille: I auditioned for our previous band so I met these amazing guys at this time.

Thom: We started SLH in June 2015 after our previous band split up. We needed a new drummer, and Jeremie was around.

Jey: I knew the others because my previous band played with their previous formation. When I left it, I had a side projet that was aborted. SLH was looking for a drummer, then I heard their demo. I was pretty astonished so I said to myself it was time to go for it. I had an "interview" and here I am :)

4. Each band member favourite band?

Tony: Too complicated to pick one...here's my top 3: A Day To Remember, Srung Out and A Wilhelm Scream.

Camille: Paramore, a huge inspiration.

Johan: I don't have any favourite band. But the band that inspires me the most when I'm playing with SLH is probably Blink-182.

Jeremie: Rise-Off-Zeblinkhead-Glory 41

Thomas: One D?

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

T: Our songs are inspired by friendship and a bunch of personal issues, I guess...  Jo: Beers and fucked up friends! Everything is in the title.

Cam: Life actually, stories about friends, personal stories

6. Where was your last gig?

Camille: It was in Paris, June 4th. That was our 3rd show together. We played with the good bands OVER (Italy), Courage My Love (Canada). We hope we'll be able to play in Europe soon!

Jo: This was a special gig for us because one year before we decided to create SLH.

7. Where would you like to act?

Jey: Japaaaan!!!

Jo: Australia, it seems that kangaroos are pretty cool!  Cam: Everywhere, all around the world!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Jo: Tim Armstrong, Billie Joe Armstrong, Lance Armstrong, Neil Armstrong!! What? The last one doesn't play music? Damn!

Cam: Hayley Williams, Alex Gaskarth, Jordan Pundik

9. Whom not?

Thom: I've got an idea... but it's bad shitting on people!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Jey: We all have stage fright. It's sane. Then adrenaline comes and everything changes. We're on stage, we're playing music, we're sharing that with fans. It's something really important for us 'cause in those days, it sounds like something essential to have fun. It sounds a little pessimistic but that's what I think. As for beginners, here's my tip: trust. If you trust all members of your band, and there're good vibes, don't be afraid, 'cause you're not alone. You're a part of the team. So have trust in each other, don't overthink, just do it and have some fun!

Cam: Stage is stressful but all disappears when you go on. My favorite thing is to hug my boys ahah it's a kind of destress medicine and then on stage, in front of fans, it feels like home :)

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Classics: The Offspring, Blink-182, Sum 41, New Found Glory, The Used, Zebrahead etc.  And don't forget French bands like Uncommonmenfrommars!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Camille: We still are a young band so the weirdest thing was an English fan asking for Tony's pick or I was asked to be photographed with some fans after a show..!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Jey: Music was made to be shared. So our fans are our motivation to go further, to push away the barriers, without forgetting who we are. We hope they spread the word about our music :)

14. What do you think of our site?

It's cool!! Got some good news on it (in particular Knuckles by Moose Blood). Liked the mouse icon! and moreover, we're freakin' happy to be on your website!

15. Something to add?

Thanks a lot for that interview. Stay tuned to our Facebook page, if you like it, share it, our first music video will be released soooooon :)
