Interviews: HERIOT
In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Doom/Hardcore band HERIOT, from UK. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Our vocalist is a big fan of medieval history. He was scouring through the Internet one day and found the word heriot, which is essentially a tax that is paid on death. It was the first name that was suggested and the name we settled on! I don't think any of us had heard of it before which is what drew is to it.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
We've all been in bands before, but nothing as heavy as this. I think this band is the product of three big metal fans finally playing straight up heavy music together. It's the perfect way of venting of aggression and its very powerful. It's such a release to perform these songs live, almost like therapy.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We've known each other since we were 14/16 years old from secondary school. We've been in (rubbish) bands since around that age too!
4. Each band member favourite band?
Jakes would be Black Sabbath, Erhans would be Code Orange and I'd say mine is Deftones. If you listen to our new EP when it drops in October, I think you'll be able to hear elements of all those bands throughout the record!
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Lyrically our songs our heavily influenced by political goings on. Everything is quite literal, there's no metaphors or anything like that. When it comes to writing music we always write with the audience in mind. Whenever we write a riff we think, how would the crowd react when we play this live? Writing music this way works well because performing live is what we do best.
6. Where was your last gig?
At the time of writing our last show was last week in our hometown. It was a Nu Metal special which meant all the bands on the bill playing a mix of original tracks and nu metal covers, was a lot of fun!
7. Where would you like to act?
We'd love to have the opportunity to play in Europe at some point. The people there are so so passionate about this kind of music. I think we'd go down really well!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
To tour with someone like Slipknot would be sweet. To tour with any band that has an established fan base would be an honour!
9. Whom not?
Anyone that we're not suited to. Brokencyde perhaps? Would be a laugh though!
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
The rest of the guys would probably say take a shit and have a few beers beforehand. But personally I think nerves are great, it gets the adrenaline going! If you don't get nervous before you play you're probably not enjoying it!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
We're huge fans of sabbath, the imagery and sound they created was influential and exciting at the time. To this day they're the most iconic metal band in the world. HECK are really inspiring because of their live show. I've never seen so much passion and energy from a band on stage. We try and give it our all on stage.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
A guy asked us to sign a few things before at a show. We just found it weird that someone wanted our signatures haha!
13. What do you think of your fans?
We love playing music, so anyone else that feels the same way about our music as we do is really cool. We're very appreciative of everyone's support!
14. What do you think of our site?
It's rad! There's news from the biggest bands out there as well as small bands like us!
15. Something to add?
We've got a lot of cool stuff coming up over the new few months which we're really excited about! In two weeks time we're playing the New Blood stage at Bloodstock which is an honour! We've also got a new record coming out on October called World Collapse, be sure to check it out!
