News: HERIOT 'World Collapse', out 28th October
Bred on a varied diet of metal and hardcore, Heriot are a multi-faceted beast. With a hearty appetite for Black Sabbath’s darkly groove, the Deftones’ dynamism and phrasing, and Code Orange’s vigour, Heriot have a unique and undeniable appeal. Born in the summer of 2014, vocalist and bassist Jake Packer and guitarist Erhan Alman joined forces with drummer Julian Gage; the result was instantly gratifying. The trio, being hugely dedicated, spent the next six months writing and rehearsing before undertaking their very first show.
Last year the band began to impact the scene with the release of their debut and free EP, Violence. The record received glowing support with Kerrang!, who covered the riff lords with a Local Heroes feature, and it also spawned two DIY videos, one of which premiered exclusively on BlankTV. The EP's success enabled the threesome to hit the country’s highways and byways, as they began their live assault for the remainder of 2015.
With a growing bandit of followers in tow, a forthcoming appearance at this year’s prestigious Bloodstock Festival, and with a spanking new record in place, a higher plane beckons for Heriot. The band’s brand new EP, entitled World Collapse, is a statement which cannot be ignored. Recorded at Monnow Valley Studios, with G1 Productions (Burials, Chronographs, The Soulless), the record is both the heaviest and most expansive piece of work the band has so far produced. The abrasive doom laden groove of Myrr soon pummels your grey matter to oblivion, but the beatings don’t stop there. The stout riffery and webbed layering of their impending single China Lake continues to hammer your senses beyond repair. As you wrap your ears around Kleptocracy the darkness has already taken over, as this savage metallic cut stabs at your very soul. The record draws to a close with the blistering World Collapse where the emerging riff masters sign off with a stinging brutal chunk of gritty doom hardcore. The world may well collapse, but before it does, Heriot are determined to have their say.
