Interviews: Weesp
In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal/Rock band Weesp, from Belarus. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Lex (vocals): It came out just like that long time ago. We just wanted the name to be short and unobtrusive to avoid putting us in any musical style limits. We liked it meaning nothing, but just a name. Good or not, but it is so.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Gul (drums): All our life we’ve been listening to different kind of music in absolutely different styles. Metal, Rock, Funk, Pop, Jazz and etc. Life is unpredictable and it’s great for every situation the one could imagine. And for sure it imprints on your thoughts, lifestyle and the music you wanna play.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Lex (vocals): I won’t lie if I say we grew up together, being best friends, or even a family. We proud that we saved this connection over years. This is very important for a band.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Lex (vocals): There are a few actually. But if I have to choose one - it is Muse. They changed my perception of music once.
Mike (guitars): My fav are Red Hot Chili Peppers since I was a kid.
Mi (bass): There are super lots. Here whats came into my mind first 5 seconds thinking about this question: Insane Clown Posse, Tool, Underoath, Heaven Shall Burn, Behemoth and Machine head.
Gul (drums): I prefer to listen Queen, Luciano Pavarotti, Black Sabbath and a lot a lot more. Difficult to name 1 band as more I live more I open new.
Stak (synth): Iron Maiden, Devil You Know, AC\DC and Korn are the best)
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Lex (vocals): I’d say we just can’t help writing songs. Our songs is about us and everything around. There is such a lot of sources of inspiration you can find in anything, when you want. In the end it is rock - it is about a soul condition at the moment.
6. Where was your last gig?
Mike (guitars): We played pretty big open air festival in Belarus as headliners (or somewhere near them). It was amazing playing in front of around 4k people.
7. Where would you like to act?
Mi (bass): We dream about playing on top european open air festivals like Rock am Ring or Woodstock.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Mi (bass): On our last album The Void, which came out the previous year, we have two songs featuring guest vocals from Cory of Norma Jean. He made really great job on it. now we are working on next LP and thinking about possible collaborations. Of course we have dreams to have guest vocals from such monsters as James from metallica or Chino from Deftones.
9. Whom not?
Mi (bass): Can’t even imagine. Maybe some crap trap gansta rappers from Uzbekistan or something like that =))
Lex (vocals): Or discopolo signer from India.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Mike (guitars): I was very scared to step on stage for something about first 100 gigs, I was very nervous and this sometimes led to mistakes in my performance. To be frank i am little frightened before gigs now as well, but this is something different - pleasant and barely noticeable.
There is only one way to overcome stage fright - play concerts as much as you can, because success is nothing more than the number of attempts you make.
Lex (vocals): Its ok to fear before coming up stage. But you have to love your music. And then you come up, you listen to the first sounds, you concentrate - and the fear goes away, you just enjoying music.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Mike (guitars): I think this are Deftones, Muse from old ones and enter shikari and the qemists if speaking about modern scene
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Mike (guitars): It’s difficult to remember the most weird but I remember one. After the one show some guy asked me to leave a signature in his passport.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Lex (vocals): It’s a great thing - the connection between different people through music. I think our fans are really different. But all of them have quite a nice taste in music, (thank you for that guys!)
14. What do you think of our site?
Gul (drums): Actually we see it for the 1st time but it’s really cool that BTC helps bands to promote their music and thoughts worldwide. Thanks a lot.
15. Something to add?
Lex (vocals): Thank you everybody, and keep in touch. We really appreciate, guys when you show up and let us know what you think. Follow your dreams and keep in touch.
