Interviews: Alliteration

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Hardcore/Punk/Noise  band Alliteration, from USA. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

X: Well it was more of a joke. We were trying to brainstorming ideas for band names and I said a few names that had the actual literary element of alliteration in it. Kealty said “those all have alliteration” then I said let's name the band that, and bam, that's our name.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

X: Well we like to play a bunch of different stuff while keeping it all punk. We never really decide on a real genre though. During our writing process we kinda say “hey you guys wanna have a ska part in the song?” Then there are a lot of yeahs and high fives when we write it.

Ryan: Adding on what X said, I definitely like that we keep it dynamic. We all have different music tastes, and in our writing it all melds together surprisingly well. We have songs that may start out pretty heavy and just turn into ska/reggae, indie, and most recently funk (keep an eye out for new stuff ;) ). But at our core, we’re definitely a punk band.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Xavier (guitar/vocals) didn't know Mike (drums) at all. Mike and Ryan (bass/vocals) use to work together and they were talking about jamming for a long time. Then when they finally got together to jam, Ryan suggested that they invited Xavier then that was it.

4. Each band member favourite band?

X: My favorite bands are From Indian lake, Microwave, TMP and I the mighty!
Mike: my favorite bands and artist are System of a Down, Eminem, Tech N9ne, Primus, Porcupine Tree and really any Steven Wilson project, tool, and Hopsin. Really anyone who is does things differently.

Ryan: August Burns Red, Every Time I Die, Weezer, are my favorite bands and I could listen to all day. I also really love mid to late 90’s and early 2000’s alternative rock and grunge. Microwave is also the shit.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

X: live videos of band playing on YouTube. I love watching the crowds reaction. That's all I really want in life.

Mike: I love working off the energy that X and Kealty give off. I feel like I can catalyze their thoughts and energy and return it to them tenfold.

Ryan: I have always gone to a lot of shows, and I have always looked at the bands on stage and thought, “I want to do that.” In terms of the songs themselves, I just write about life experiences and use music to vent.

6. Where was your last gig?

Mike: The last place we played at was the Loft in Poughkeepsie, NY. We played with Being as an Ocean and their performance was spectacular.

7. Where would you like to act?

Mike: Any venue in times square. I feel like anywhere in that area would be a lot of fun to play.

X: I kinda want to play in a bathroom. I have no idea why, it has just been something I’ve wanted to do.

Ryan: I want to attempt to get on the bill opening for some bigger bands in the tri-state area, but other than that, I’d love to play some shows in Connecticut with our boys in Life On The Sideline and Homestead.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Mike: Tech N9ne. It needs to be him. He has written music with Serj Tankian and Cory Taylor. Why not Alliteration?

Ryan: I have recently been on a Silent Planet binge, and I would love to play with them. They’re not crazy big, so I think it’s pretty feasible that they go on tour or play an off-date at our local big-act venues, The Chance/Loft.

9. Whom not?

Mike: There isn't a single band we actively don't want to play with. Everyone seems pretty chill.

Ryan: Blood on the Dancefloor. Need I say more?

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Mike: I have been known to occasionally suffer from stage fright, but the only place I want to be is on stage killing it. I get over it quickly though.

Ryan: I actually do get nervous too. Since we’re a weird band I’m always self-conscious about us not being punk or heavy enough to be on certain bills. After we play our first song though, people always seem to be vibing with our music so I get over it quickly. Most recently, I was also pretty nervous opening for BAAO because while the other guys have done so before, that was my first time opening for a bigger band.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Mike: Modest Mouse and Foo Fighters. They always seem like they are having a great time playing on stage. It's as if every time is their first time. We want to carry that energy every time we play.

Ryan: The Chariot and Every Time I Die have inspired me with the sheer energy they held on stage and how ape shit people used to go for them. I also love the way that Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake play shows, because their sets are just about having fun and we definitely want everybody to have a good time during our sets. Finally, a local band called Cross Check (from Poughkeepsie, not the PA one) always had large, wild crowds and I always looked up to that.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Mike: Nothing weird so far, but we are weird people so it's kind of hard to judge that.

Ryan: I don’t think I’ve had many weird fan requests, but I’m a fan of Mike’s drumming so I asked him to sign my butt at a party this past weekend. He did it.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Mike: we love our fans. We love seeing people sing along and throw down to our songs. It's a feeling like no other.

14. What do you think of our site?

I like that you guys try to play some of the more underrated bands! Some band have a really hard time getting there name out  there, so for anyone to help them by giving them a play, share or even interview helps a lot more then some people think.

15. Something to add?

Thank you for interviewing us! We are trying to do some smallers tours next year. We have new music that we are working on that hopefully we’ll be able to get out by the end of next year. In the mean time, you can check out our album here: https://alliteration-ny.bandcamp.com/album/reflect

That's about it, thank you!
