News: You Know The Drill – Less Than You – Video Feature

Vocalist Benji Yapp explains of the title: “We felt it was relevant - it relates to the hard times in life that everyone goes through, where it just seems to be one bad thing after another.” But You Know The Drill aren’t all doom and gloom, the band – completed by Damo Darby on Bass, Brad Potter on Drums and guitarists Jim McCormack & Luke Astley – have a simple mantra: “if it isn’t fun then what’s the point?”. The EP is batting for the rafters, with their energy laden guitar and drum attack and vocal hooks left, right and centre, on their big-room-ready choruses. Ahead of the EP’s release on the 28th October, the band give you a behind the scenes look at their recent video for Less Than You…

"When it came to deciding the lead single, Less Than You was the first that came to mind for all of us: alongside being the first track we began writing for this EP, as well as the first demo that became a full, finished track.

Our concept for the video came from the mind of our bassist, Damo who thought up the simple story of a guy watching TV and channel surfing in boredom, the role of which being played by the Facebook sensation, Lewis Hancox AKA Mr. Lewzer. We always played around with the idea of having Lewis involved somehow, and once we reached out to him, we were shocked by how fast he got back to us and how eager he was to be involved; A Skype chat later and we had Lewis 100% on-board.

After discussing videographers for a while, the name that repeatedly came back up was Richard Dimery, who shot the music video for our single ‘No Ambition’ in August 2015, as well as shooting videos for bands like Trash Boat and Neck Deep. He's a great guy to work with and always produces the best content for us.

We shot the video over a few different locations, the first of which being a quiet Village Hall that we hired out to film most of the interior shots in. The hall is required for it's large open space, so that we could easy set up the green screen and large white backdrop that was used for the band shots.

Our next shooting location was for the Cowboy flick, which was shot on top of a large dusty hill in our hometown. The area is mostly used by dog walkers which meant many of the outtakes featured dogs running into shot and confused looking owners.

One of the most clever parts of the video is probably when Lewis' "Mum", comes and sits down next to him on the sofa. Although in reality it was Brad who came and sat next to Lewis, and then vice versa when it was time to shoot the "Mum" scenes. These two clips were put together to create the illusion that Lewis was sat next to himself on the sofa.

Finally shooting wrapped up in a local woodland to film 'Jimass'. It was getting dark and we were all tired, but we had to act like we were all hyped for Jim to run through the fence panel while he danced around in front of us in nothing but booty shorts and a cape.

All in all the shoot took about 11 hours, but Rich worked incredibly hard and I think we all played our parts brilliantly, we’re over the moon with the turnout and hope any viewers find it as funny as we planned it to be!"
