Interviews: Chasing Sounds
In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Pop Punk/Melodic Hardcore Punk band Chasing Sounds , from Austria. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
That's an awesome story, we had the bandname way before we had any material written or we even went to jam under the name Chasing Sounds. It was one of those average high school night outs, me (Attila) Mate and another friend of ours were hangingout drinking and smoking at Mate's Grandma's basement. Our usual spot to hang out after going thru all the bars in Bratislava. We were pretty drunk and under the influence of other substances, listening to some weird electro music, playing around with words Mate spat out Chasing Sounds. We knew it at that very moment that this will be our bandname if we ever manage to put a band together. I remember this like it was yesterday. This was around 2010.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
The genre we play defined itself, since I'm the songwriter in the band it just came naturally what I play. I'm heavily influenced by pop punk, nu/metal, hardcore all the 90's stuff even some rap and pop but that can't be heard in our music of course. So does Mate, it's just the music we grow up listening to as kids. We try to take all the best hooks and parts we like in these musical styles.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Again Just the two of us (no not the Will Smith song) haha Mate and myself (Attila)basically grew up together, listened to the same music, adored the same bands, started to play instruments at the same time. We actually started our first garage band together back in 2005 called ''Sectorious" with another kid on guitar. We played everything (wrong) from Smells like teen spirit but only till the bridge, Slayer's Bitter Piece with the guitarist playing the one finger chords (Tuned in E) to Children of Bodom's Sixpounder which was a total disaster. We wrote our first and only song called ''Death comes tonight" I think the title explains it all... We never had a singer never played a gig and we disbanded after a year and a half. Mate and I went on to play in different bands. The rest of the band joined us in early 2015.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Too long to list, as we mentioned before we like a lot of different bands we can't really name an exact band, rather styles pop punk, hardcore, and nu/metal are our main influences definitely the 90's early 2000's era of these styles.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Since I'm the songwriter most of the times things, that happen to me personally, things I see happening in my near, own experiences and after hearing a great songs from somebody if it kicks me in, I'll just sit down with my guitar and noodle around. If something catches my attention I'll try to build a structure around the main riff, and turn it into a song.
Then I record it on my phone, and will bring it to band practice. If it's not total bullshit and Mate's feeling it too, we jam on it add or take away parts and will go back to it. If we like it we keep it in mind and will work on it the next week. This is the usual writing process we follow. Sometimes we just come in, take our instruments and start from zero. If the musical chemistry hits at that point, something magical can come out. This is the unusual side of how we write music, and how our best songs were made. See ''Yesterday's no Different''
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was in Hradec Kralove in the Czech Republic.
7. Where would you like to act?
We would like to play more in Germany, play for the first time in Belgium, England and the Netherlands next year, and of course every European musicians dream to tour in the United States.
So if your in one of these countries and your reading this, don't hesitate to hit us up. Cheers
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We are supporting IGNITE in December for one show, it would be amazing to tour with those guys, or H20, Pennywise or anyone else from these iconic So/Cal punk bands
9. Whom not?
Whom not? That's a good question I don't have the answer for. Were not so deeply involved in the scene yet that we would have any ''enemies'' or better stated a rival bands to compete with. After all I look at music as a place where people find harmony together not where you should compete with one another.
If your looking for that you should play sports or whatever...
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
It was quite long since our first time on stage as individuals, everybody deals with it differently.
I wasn't really afraid, rather a couldn't wait until I can finally get up there and play, enjoy my half an hour on stage. Sometimes if were in the mood we knock down one or two shots of whatever which kinda spirit and by the end of the second song we sweat it all out, couse we play so intense.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Ignite, old Blink 182, H20, Deftones, Limp Bizkit, Nofx, Jimmy Eat World, Slayer, Metallica, Cannibal Corpse, Pantera, RATM, Nirvana,Good Riddance, Offspring, Pennywise, Rancid, Social Distortion, Strung Out, Cypress Hill, Incubus, Snoop Dogg, Queen, The Police, The Cure I really can't think of more at the moment...
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Nothing weird yet so keep em coming ladies and gentleman, we have a great sense of humor and almost nothing can surprise us. almost... sniffing a dead raven's remains from a cookie jar before the show would be a bit too much. It was even for Corey Taylor and that guy can handle shit.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Most of the fans of our band, are people who we knew long before and they started to support our band, kinda naturally. Becouse we were the people in their circles who started to make this, so even if someone does not like us, he will come to at least one show just from pure curiosity, but after buying our merch I think we won the over, and that's a pretty awesome feeling, when you see they really did enjoyed the gig.
That's why we wanna tour as much as possible, to gain new fans, hang out with them, talk with them have a beer or a smoke. This is one of the best parts about being in a band, to meet new people, who share a similar taste in music, you can always learn something new from one another, or just simply have a great time.
14. What do you think of our site?
It looks great and we are pleased to have the opportunity to do this interview for you guys.
It's awesome that people put together such sites where you can discover a lot of great up and coming bands. Keep up the good work.
15. Something to add?
Give new bands a chance, listen to their songs, buy their merch spread the word, and most importantly come to the shows and have a good time! Remember that your favorite band playing at Reading was once a small local band too.
