Interviews: Destinova

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Rock/Punk/Grunge band Destinova, from Germany. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

'Destinova' has not been our first Bandname. We called ourselves 'Poetry Fact' before, but after several years we didn't like it anymore. It just didn't fit. So our Ex-Drummer Alessandro and I had the idea to rename the Band to 'Destinova'. It could be interpreted as 'New Destiny' or you could just say we really liked the Manga 'Battle Angel Alita' and 'Prof. Desty Nova' is a pretty cool character in the series.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We all listened to Rock and Punk music, when we were teenager, or even before that time. I have been listening to many Grungebands, while Thomas loved the Oldschool Rock scene and Alessandro has been into Progressive Rock for a long period. We just wanted to do more than just learn our instrument and play at home for ourselves, we wanted to be creative in a group and play live, so we decided to form a Rockband, where our different musical influences could be mashed up in.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes. I knew Alessandro since we have been in kindergarten together. I got friends with Thomas shortly before we started the Band. And Stevo has not been there in the band yet. We didn't know him at that time, also.

4. Each band member favourite band?

They are not here right now so I have to guess. My favourite Band is 'Alice in Chains'. I think Thomas' favourite band is 'Rin Toshite Shigure', which is an Indie Rock band from Japan, although you can't really call them Indie. You should check them out. We Alessandro isn't a member anymore and lately he is listening different music, so I guess maybe he's into 'John Butler Trio' right now. Stevo's favourite Band is called 'Chefdenker', a german Punkrock Band.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Well, most of the intrumental parts are written by Thomas or Stevo. They just love to jam by themselves and create new material this way. I'm the guy putting the lyrics and vocals on the tracks. Normally I'm just starting to write something down, which fits in my opinion and when I got 1 or 2 lines written I start creating a meaning out of the lyrics. For a long time the topic has been personal freedom, but sometimes other bandmembers say, which topic they would like to have in the song, so I try to transpose their thoughts into some lyrics.

6. Where was your last gig?

It was in our hometown in Leverkusen actually. It was a short gig on an anniversary festival for the location we played.

7. Where would you like to act?

We toured through Great Britain recently and loved the musical scene there, so this is the place for us.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

I don't really have the desire to feature with a certain someone. This doesn't mean that I hate playing with other musicians, I love to do this. But this is mostly a pretty spontaneous thing.

9. Whom not?

We're gonna sort that out, when we get to the point.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Ouh yes, when we started the band I was pretty damn nervous on the stage all the time. Not just because there were so many people listening, but also because I knew that I really sucked at singing at that time. I beat my stage fright by getting better and got appreciated by other people and musicians. I had to get some compliments that built me up and gave me the confidence that I'm doing a good job. It was really hard work. I can't say how others will get over it, because everybody has to deal with it themselves.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

This could be a pretty damn long list, but I try to cut it: Alice in Chains, Rin Toshite Shigure, Maximum the Hormone, Foo Fighters, Dir en Grey, Incubus

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Lick Stevos penis

13. What do you think of your fans?

They're awesome! Thank you all!

14. What do you think of our site?

It's a pretty cool site, supporting underground bands. We can not have enough of them nowadays.

15. Something to add?

Go to concerts more often!
