Interviews: Devils Envy
In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock/Metal band Devyls Envy, from USA. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
The name originally came from a poem I [Angel Graves] wrote, which says "...After all that was and what will never be, the devils envy the art in me."
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
It just comes natural to us. We don't usually stick to a specific type of genre , though. Whatever comes off as powerful and the passion is purely felt by listeners, that's what we'll go with.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, we did. Our drummer, Eli Saint and I were in a band called Stiletto Red and started working together on music soon after the band had broken up. Our frontman, Justin Sims has worked as a tour manager for bands like Escape The Fate and Black Tide a few years ago. We met him through a friend that thought he could be a good person to work with. We're also good friends with Zakk Sandler (Bassist for Falling In Reverse), who was nice enough to offer to help us and be a huge part of the writing process and some performances here in Orlando FL, before relocating to California. Although, he's no longer a permanent member, we consider him as part of this album cycle, especially since he helped us write some of it.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Angel: Avenged Sevenfold
Eli: Aerosmith
Justin: Of Mice And Men
Zakk: System of a Down
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Our life experiences have always been a key role in our inspiration for creativity. As well as video games, and film scores. But mostly our passion to create something that reveals our inner most desires, thoughts and dreams into music form, that is what truly inspires us.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last show was at West End Trading Co, Sanford, FL supporting Bobaflex
7. Where would you like to act?
Worldwide.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We love all types of music and genres. We'd love to do a feature with DJs like Marshmello, and Rezz. Rap artists like Hopsin, and MGK, and pop artists like Demi Lovato and Justin Beiber, maybe? We embrace our rock and metal community, but it seems as thought, we as an entertainment industry, collaborate within our own genres already; why not mix it up a bit?
9. Whom not?
Anyone who has denied helping us in the beginning.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
We don't believe anyone of us has ever had stage fright. Some of us have been acting in plays, performing in marching bands, and have performed in several other bands since we were kids. Some good tips for beginners would be to just rehearse and practice as much as you can so that your performance is purely muscle memory, be confident, (they're there for YOU), so own it!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Aerosmith, Avenged Sevenfold, System of a Down, Metallica, Van Halen, Prince, Oingo Boingo, Muse, Pantera, and many others.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Photos of Angel eating cookies.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We love them to death. It doesn't seem like a big deal to some, but they're literally all we have in order to be heard. We try to be as friendly and accommodating as possible with them. Most of them look to us for advice, suggestions, or even a nice message to check in to see how they're doing. We could all use people like that in our lives. We don't know what they go through every day, and I'm sure they would appreciate bring treated as a human being, instead of another number on their YouTube channel views, for once, just like the rest of us.
14. What do you think of our site?
It looks awesome! Easy to follow.
15. Something to add?
We admire your company's work and what you do for artists. So, keep doing what you're doing!
