News: OWEL DEBUTS NEW SONG "TOO YOUNG TO FALL IN LOVE"
Today, OWEL is premiering another new song, "Too Young to Fall in Love", from their sophomore full-length, dear me, which will be out on November 11 via Equal Vision Records. The song can be heard now at Youtube.com/equalvision.
"This song was a big step for us toward unfamiliar territory, so it was pretty exciting and fun to work on," reveals vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Jay Sakong. "Although we're no stranger to electronic elements in our songs, we usually keep them tucked somewhat in the background. I've always dug electronic bands like Moby, Washed Out, or Massive Attack because they're always so good at creating a feeling or groove. That was really the goal for this - not to be technically impressive but to just create a groove. I spent some time in a beautiful little island in Thailand a couple years back. I remember thinking, "My God, this place is paradise. Why am I not living here?" But of course, I couldn't live there...not yet. Much like many other things in my life, I don't think I'm quite ready to find that perfect thing just yet. I think I need to struggle a little longer."
The band also recently partnered with A.V. Club for the premiere of their video for "Pale Soft Light" that was illustrated and animated by Sakong and can be seen HERE.
The new album was co-produced by Sakong and Gates’ vocalist Kevin Dye and is available for pre-order now at owelband.merchnow.com. All physical pre-orders come with an instant MP3 download of "Too Young to Fall in Love", as well as the band's previously released singles "Paper Hands" and "Pale Soft Light".
The New Jersey-based indie outfit will kick off a new tour supporting the Soil & the Sun on November 10 in Philadelphia, PA. The month long tour will also include a special headline / album release show for OWEL on November 11 in New York City. Everyone who purchases a ticket to the album release show will also receive a free copy of the CD at the venue. All upcoming tour dates can be found below.
dear me is the follow-up to Every Good Boy (EP, 2015) and the band's debut, self-titled full-length (2013). Featuring delicate, dreamy vocals with lush five-part harmonies, elegant string arrangements and a tasteful touch of electronic elements throughout, the band has created a truly stunning sound that is all their own and simultaneously feels classic and modern. On dear me, dramatic crescendos and dynamic soundscapes weave behind ethereal vocals, gracefully leading listeners on a phenomenal sonic journey of reflection, curiosity and contemplation.
To date, OWEL has shared stages with the likes of Minus The Bear, Foxing, American Authors and performed at festivals such as Gentlemen of the Road, CMJ, SXSW, and Northside Festival. The band has also been noted as a band to watch by Pitchfork, NPR, Grantland, Noisey and more.
OWEL is comprised of Jay Sakong (lead vocals, guitar, keys), Jane Park (vocals, violin, viola, keys), Nunzio Moudatsos (vocals, bass), Ryan Vargas (percussion) and Seamus O’Connor (vocals, guitar, keys).
