Interviews: Calamity

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Metal/Trash Metal  band Calamity, from Puerto Rico. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
It's funny, because it is the third name we've had. At first we was called Silent Screams when we use to do Metallica covers in Gonzalo's (guitarist) garage. After we started writing original music we changed our name to Hush, spent two or three years with it. Then, after our musical style went heavier we decided  that "Calamity" was the name that better represent what we are doing and the sound we are seeking. We spent more than three weeks brainstorming on name ideas and at some point we all agreed that Calamity defined the whole sound and style of the band.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We just started playing the way we feel we should play. We've always been a Thrash Metal Fans, and all of us liked Megadeth, Lamb of God, Slayer and Metallica when we started the band. Later, we learned about a lot of modern Thrash bands (Havok, Warbringer, Toxic Holocaust among others) and decided they where awesome and we should play something like that.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, we know each other since kindergarten. Gonzalo, Berny and Fernan went to the same school from kinder to 12th grade. Eduardo joined in 7th grade. So we where close friends before bandmates.

4. Each band member favourite band?

We can't pick just one so we may resume all of them in:

Gojira, System of a Down, Pantera, Metallica, Sylosis, Warbringer, Lamb of god, Havok, Death, Megadeth and Avenged Sevenfold.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Inspiration come whenever it wants, its sometimes a pain. We could be wanting to write something awesome but not having any inspiration, or being extremely inspired but not having the chance to write. But we believe that our inspiration comes from life situations, good or bad emotions and states. We think about powerful situations and feelings in a poetical manner an try to reflect that on riffs, melodies, lyrics and beats.

6. Where was your last gig?

It was at Handlebar, San Juan Puerto Rico. Big venue with huge crowd from our hometown, Puerto Rico!
7. Where would you like to act?

Everywhere! But especially we would love to do another US tour to gain more followers there. Playing at Maryland Death fest would be awesome too.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Any of our modern thrash favorite bands, Havok, Toxic Holocaust, Municipal Waste, Vektor, Warbringer. Any of those would be brutal.
9. Whom not?

Hmmm.. Justin Bieber maybe?
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how
to beat that?

Sure we did, when we started playing shows. It is totally normal to be frightened by an experience like that, being in the spotlight playing your music in front of people. The trick is to improve your self-confidence and being highly prepared for what your going to do, so there is no way you feel insecure up there.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The top five would be Metallica, Lamb of God, Death, Havok, and Gojira.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To play in their wedding, haha (we would happily do it by the way.)
13. What do you think of your fans?

They are affective, protective, open minded and super energetic people!
14. What do you think of our site?
Its great to have a place where we can share our stories and keep an overall tracking of the extreme music scene. Please don't stop!

15. Something to add?
