Interviews: Deep As Ocean
In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Metalcore band Deep As Ocean, from Italy. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where
did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out
just like that?
Alberto:
Our band name just came out after a few months of various ideas that
didn’t convince us. In our opinion “Deep As Ocean” is a good
name for a “core band”, it sounds really cool and reflects our
two souls: the word “deep” refers to the heaviest and dark side
of our music, while “ocean” means freshness and lightness.
2.Why
did you want to play this genre?
Riccardo:
We don’t think there’s an exact reason for our genre. We just
play what we like the most and we want
to mix it all up. We grew up listening to the big metalcore and nu
metal bands who stroke
the 00’s and now we are inspired by
the new wave of american, british and australian core bands.
3.
Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Ale:
Well, Alberto (guitar), his brother Riccardo (drums) and Ale (guitar)
used to play in the same band for a
lot of years
(Generation Fuckstar). When they decided
to change their music project, they first met Teo (bass, ex- Diamonds
Breakers) and Matt (vocals, who also sing in See You Inside).
4.
Each band member favourite band?
Matt:
My favorite band is certainly Papa Roach. Alby really loves
Architects, Ricky is a huge fan of Beartooth, Teo has
a passion for Avenged Sevenfold and Ale loves
Bullet For My Valentine.
5.
Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Matt:
I started to sing inspired from my music hero, who is Jacoby Shaddix
from Papa Roach. I am super fan of that band. Lyrically I’m
inspired from what happens in the world today and I talk about all
the problems and dangers that afflict society today with a veil of
pessimist and a fear of our self-annihilation. But there’s a
message of hope in every song; that reflects our musical nature, a
combination of dark and light, in a perfect balance.
As
regards guitar lines, Alberto
and Ale
are able to create impressive riffs
spontaneously,
while
Ricky and Teo mix
all together
with rhythmic. In
addition Alberto
and Riccardo
used to play together since they were very
young,
so
that they are in perfect harmony.
6.
Where was your last gig?
Alberto:
Deep as Ocean are a brand new project, we just started to play
together this summer. We are preparing our first live shows for the
first days of 2017. Stay tuned!
7.
Where would you like to act?
Teo:
Our biggest dream is to take part of the great Warped Tour, we
definitely love that festival. All our favorite bands played there.
But
for now we’d like to play all over our country.
8.
Whom would you like to feature with?
Matt:
We’d
like to feature with Sam of Architects, for us is one of the best
singer in the core-world today. It would also be very cool featuring
with Lee Malia, guitarist from Bring me the Horizon.
9.
Whom not?
Teo:
We are moving our first steps as a band, so we’re really opened to
new collaborations…we surely have a lot to learn from everybody, in
positive or in negative.
10.
Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners
on how to beat that?
Ale:
Yes, of course. The first times we performed live with our previous
band were seriously frightening! But when you start to play
everything change. Our tip? Just jump all around the stage and have
fun!
11.
What bands have inspired you the most?
Riccardo:
We are mostly influenced from We Came As Romans, Asking Alexandria,
Bring Me the Horizon, Beartooth. And also Architects, The Ghost
Inside and Of Mice and Men are a great source of inspiration.
12.
What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Ale:
After
a live in a club in Milan
there
was a young girl who
supposed the bassist had broken strings and asked us: “why doesn’t
the bassist have 6 strings? Did he break them?”
We
were shocked and at the same time we laugh a lot!
13.
What do you think of your fans?
Alberto:
Having a group of loyal and vigorous fans is the best thing a band
could wish.
They’re our incentive to create always something new and to invest
all our energy in this passion!
14.
What do you think of our site?
Matt:
Your site is absolutely amazing. Your promotion is very important for
the bands and it’s all for free! It’s a great opportunity for us
to spread our music.
15.
Something to add?
Teo:
We’d
like to thank the guys from Breathing The Core for giving us this
chance and visibility. If you like some of the bands we are inspiring
by,
then you’ll like us.
