Interviews: L30 Artwork
In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the designer L30 Artwork. Check out this designer for great logos, artworks, etc. Give him a like on his FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Why did you decide to start making designs for bands?
I've always been involved with music since I was a little kid. When I was 7 years old, I learned how to play acoustic guitar by myself. At 11, drums, when I had my first band. At the first instant that I recognized myself as human being, music always have been part of my life. It's like your youngest brother that wants to learn with you by seeing everything that you do or an older brother that takes care of you.
2. Where did you get the idea for your artistic/designer name?
It was easy. My name is Leo Simoes, and when I decided to take this activity seriously, like creating a business around it, I was 30 years old. I put together L from Leo and 30 because it was the age that I had when I decided to take illustration as a business and artwork at the end so people could understand what we do by seeing our name. That's how I got the name L30 Artwork.
3. How would you describe your designs as?
My designs are the fingerprint of who owns it. Most of the time I use white color for the design, black background and bold lines. Sometimes clients ask me to add colors, but my feeling is always for black and white. Bold lines because we should be bold to be visible, we should be strong to be noticed in the current system, do our best always, be better today comparing with yesterday, work hard before the sunrise and after the sunset, and the most important, be bold against anyone who wants to take our dream from us. Black and white because an identity should be simple, life should be simple and there isn't more simplicity than the contrast between black and white. It's everything and nothing at the same time, it's the yin yang, sugar and salt, up and down, in and out, + and -, 1 and 0 (binary code), man and woman and it goes until the infinity. That's how the universe, multiverse, life and nature were builded and we can't go against nature.
4. Where did you get the inspiration to make your designs?
My inspiration comes from everything and anywhere. You can see that I have a heavy influence of tattoos, some occultism, what i'm trying to change a little bit in 2017 for the right direction, right vibration. Basically I have some key elements that I use because i'm connected to it some how, and I feel that it has some strong energy behind it.
5. Which kind of designs do you make (artwork, merchandise, logos...)?
Since I started to take L30Artwork seriously, I focused on artwork and merchandise. Logos I'm doing mostly for companies, it takes time and there are a lot of techniques and studies behind it, that's why most of the time I try to avoid doing logos. However when I see some potential and some challenging project, I do it for personal approval and self competition.
6. How much do you usually spend on every design?
It depends on the project. I had projects that I spent two weeks on it and others that I spent 2,3 days sketching and doing final art. Usually it takes 2 to 4 days the whole process: sketching, getting the sketch approval, final art, if the client approves things fast ;D
7. With which band´s have your worked?
I have been working with bands from every corner of this planet, and I'm very proud of myself because of it. I'm gonna write some of the bands / companies that I enjoyed doing the job.
Larrakia (UK), Seasons Hollow (UK), She Sells Sea Shells (Germany), Until the Avalanche (USA), Banshee's Downfall (Spain), Armada (USA), Unparalleled Height (USA), Make Them Suffer (Australia), Misguided (Australia), Band Scrim Uk (an independent stage art business that had folded their entire Van with a design that I did.), Hangman Clothing (Germany), Arda (Russia), Cerbervs Clothing (Switzerland), Paura (Brazil), Against the “Hero” (Brazil), Smut (Macedonia), Lockjaw Records (UK), Valley (Belgium), Deep in Hate (France).
8. Have you got any bad experience with a design (re-doing it many times, making many changes...)?
It doesn't happen that often. Since the L30Artwork started I just got two clients like this. I'm glad and lucky at the same time that all my clients know exactly what they want, or if they don't know what they need, they trust 100% on my work and feeling. I love when a client just give me and idea of elements and they say “do whatever you want”. That's blessed.
9. Can you say something for the beginners?
Be sure about your dream 100%, just follow it, don't listen to people who will try to drag you down. People don't have the same dream as you and most of the cases they don't have a dream at all, so they don't know a thing about fighting for a dream and achieve goals.
Don't waste your time with things that will not bring you value and close to your goal. Be persistent, organized with time, practice, practice and practice. Practice will bring you close to perfection because no one is perfect and the most important is to keep always your dream alive in your mind, never forget where you want to be at the end of the journey.
10. Say something about your designs and prices 'Spam'
Prices are difficult to rate, it depends on the project and I estimate how much time I would spend, but we created something very convenient and incredible to clients that have a tight budget but want to have L30Artwork style attached to their band or company.
At Nov 2016, we just released L30Artwork.com and the objective of this website is to bring to everyone the opportunity to have unique and awesome identity for a small amount.
In L30Artwork.com we have two categories of products, one calls “Exclusive” and the other one calls “For All”,
“Exclusive” category is for everyone that wants 100% exclusivity in their designs and in this section a design is sold for considered amount and just once, it means that just one client can buy a specific design.
“For All” category is amazing because different customers can buy the same design but you can combine designs and packages creating a completely new design. For example, this month we released a package called Flowers, and also we have another package called Evil, so you can get a reaper, or a skull from the Evil package and a flower from the Flowers package and combine them the way that you prefer and then you can print on a t-shirt, album cover, print a A2 canvas to put on the wall that's up to band fans or clothing brands clients.
Thank you very much for inviting me for this interview. It was a pleasure to give a chance to people know a little bit more about me and L30Artwork. Good vibes for everyone!
