Interviews: Villes
In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Hardcore band Villes, from Singapore. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
The band name “Villes” means cities in French. In the earlier interviews, we used to make up a reason being that anybody in any city would be able to relate to our music that’s why we called ourselves “Villes”. But to be honest we just thought it sounded cool. LOL
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Post-hardcore has always intrigued me, the fact that heavy elements and melodic elements could blend in so seamlessly. We grew up listening to bands like The Devil Wears Prada, Chiodos and Bring Me The Horizon. So we wanted to create our own brand of heavy yet catchy music.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
The four of us have known each other since Secondary School, so I think that’s about 11 years now. MJ is the newest member in the band and we’ve seen him playing in other bands but we only got close within the past 2 years.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Bryan (Vocals/Guitar): Taking Back Sunday
Dominic (Vocals): The Devil Wears Prada
Mark (Bass): While She Sleeps
MJ (Guitar): Muse
Ben (Drums): Periphery
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We write a lot about the things we go through or the stuff that our close friends go through. Our upcoming full-length ‘The Cure’ touches on all forms of addiction, from the addiction to alcohol and narcotics, to the addiction of a toxic relationship or the greed of money.
6. Where was your last gig?
We just played our first show here in Singapore since 2015. With Dom (our vocalist) living in Sydney, Australia. Before that it was at the Heartown Festival in Taiwan in December 2016 w/ Architects, I Killed The Prom Queen and Veil of Maya as headliners.
7. Where would you like to act?
We’ve toured Japan, Australia and a lot of South-east Asia. We’d definitely love to perform in Europe or the United States!
Caleb Shomo from Beartooth, Sam Carter from Architects or Chester Bennington from Linkin Park would be amazing. They all have such unique voices and we would love them on a track.
8.
Whom would you like to feature with?
Caleb
Shomo from Beartooth, Sam Carter from Architects or Chester
Bennington from Linkin Park would be amazing. They all have such
unique voices and we would love them on a track.
9.
Whom not?
We’re
pretty open to any collaborations, we even featured THELIONCITYBOY to
rap on our next single “The Fear Generation”.
10.
Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners
on how to beat that?
We
all get butterflies in our stomach before going on stage but I think
that’s what keeps performing exciting. As long as you’re
rehearsed well and know your parts I think a little bit of stage
fright is good for you.
11.
What bands have inspired you the most?
I
think bands like Linkin Park, Slipknot and Korn back in the day
helped bring the spot light on heavy music. They made it acceptable
to have screaming vocals in Rock. And we now see that with Bring Me
The Horizon, they’re being the catalyst to convert the masses into
giving heavy music a chance. We really respect those bands.
12.
What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
After
playing our set at the JakCloth festival, a fan in the front was
shouting for my t-shirt which was drenched in sweat. He kept
gesturing at the t-shirt shouting “the time is now!”.
13.
What do you think of your fans?
We
think fans of our music are non-compromising and non-conforming, they
never settle for mediocrity.
14.
What do you think of our site?
Breathing
the Core is an awesome platform for all things core. Sites like
Breathing the Core that keep the scene alive and kicking!
15.
Something to add?
Our
debut full-length ‘The Cure’ drops April 2017. And we’re about
to release a music video for “The Fear Generation” that we shot
in a local disco, we’re super stoked for that!
