Equal Vision Records' Hail The Sun is now premiering a long form music video for the band's cinematic track "Doing the Same Thing and Expecting Different Results". The video was filmed and directed by Michael-Rex Carbonell and and can be seen now at Youtube.com/equalvision. The song comes from Hail The Sun's latest full-length, Culture Scars, which is out now on Equal Vision Records.
This Summer, Hail The Sun will head out on a full US run with direct support from Equal Vision Records labelmates Capsize, and additional support from Eidola and LIMBS. All upcoming tour dates can be found below. VIP packages and tickets can be found at hts.soundrink.com. VIP packages will include a unique one of a kind tapestry, 'choose your own' setlist acoustic performance, a silkscreened tour poster, a laminate, meet and greet with Instax photo, and merch priority before doors.
"We wanted this video to have the same vibe as the album art of Culture Scars, and since Michael-Rex had done the cover for us, it made sense that he put that same touch to the video for this song," shares vocalist/drummer Donovan Melero.
"The video itself is an embellishment of how I see my late teens and early to mid 20s. I think I was very hard to trust, for several reasons. Having multiple characters in the video isn’t necessarily a literal adaptation, but rather symbolic for the many instances I would be less than upfront with loved ones. That’s one way to put it, at least. At the end of the song, I am referring to specific people, and we wanted to symbolize the wall that was put up between myself and their emotions. But, sometimes it would end up coming down in anger, and the cycle would repeat."
Culture Scars is Hail The Sun's third full-length, and was recorded with producer Mike Watts (The Dear Hunter, Hopesfall, As Cities Burn). The thoughtprovoking album offers a dark mix of personal reflection and social commentary, exploring the relationships between observation vs. action and perception vs. reality - and the effect of each on human emotion and society as a whole. An elaborate track-by-track look at the album can be seen now at AltPress.com.
Lyrically, the album also explores Melero's personal journey of overcoming addiction and reflects on his growth since that time, and the impact that getting sober (now eight years clean) has had on his perception of himself, his past relationships, and his resulting appreciation for his family, friends and the opportunity to make music and tour with his bandmates.
The quartet has also released music videos for "Entertainment Lies", "Words of Gratitude (Parents)", "Paranoia" and "Burn Nice and Slow (The Formative Years)".
Culture Scars is the follow-up to Wake (2014) and two prior self-released albums: Elephantitis EP (2012) and Pow! Right in the Kisser! (2010). Hail The Sun is comprised of Donovan Melero (vocals, drums), Aric Garcia (guitar), John Stirrat (bass), and Shane Gann (guitar).
