Interviews: Betray Your Idols
In this new occasion we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Hardcore Punk band Betray Your Idols from Germany. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
We didn’t plan our name back in 2006 when we started this band. We worked on songs and when our very first concert was right about to happen we where like “damn, we need a name” haha. A good friend of us said, that he would call a band “betray your idols”. We thought about the name and it fitted so well to our ideas and songs, that we swapped his name idea for a sixpack of beer.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
We all listen to very different styles of music. We try to bring all of this influences and ideas together and the result is our sound. People use to call it Melodic Hardcore-Punk. It wasn’t really a plan like “hey, we have to play Hardcore or something like that”. It was a result of our writing process and looking back on that, this genre and this sound is the best way to express our feelings ans messages.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We are a Family-Good-Friends-Bunch of a band. Erik and Phil are brothers, Stefan ist their cousin. Daniel and Kris went to school together with Phil. It seems like that we know each other our whole life. That might be one of the many reasons, that betray your idols is a project for more than 11 years and still feels like the best thing in the world. Hanging out and making music with your family and best friends, isn’t really a bad way to kill time.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Phil: A Day To Remember
Erik: Incubus
Kris: The Smashing Pumkins
Stefan: Tool
Daniel: Brand New
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
The biggest inspiration for our songs is life itself. There is so much happening around us, in our heads and in the world. There is no better way to deal with that, than writing it down and form songs out of it. Music gives us the opportunity to self reflect. If we are able to help some listeners with their situation, it would be a great feeling
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gigs where a really nice Weekender in Belgium. We played Antwerp and Denderhoutem and met a lot of old and new friends. Shows in Belgium always have this special vibe and spirit, that we really love!
7. Where would you like to act?
Uk is a big dream. Let’s see what the future will hold for us.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Shaun Milton, former singer of Landscapes
9. Whom not?
That’s a tough one haha. Maybe Chad Kroeger? His hairgame is way too strong for us.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Sure and we still do. The best “tip” is, to just let it happen. After the first few seconds of the set, the stage fright will switch to euphoria.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Check out our favorite Bands from the question before. There are a lot of close friends like Valley, The Pariah, Liotta Seoul and so on who inspire us with every show we play together as well.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
There was nothing weird actually. Its still weird in a beautiful way, when people ask you for a selfie or an autograph. We enjoy it, but come on, we are just 5 friends playing Punkrock-s`Songs. Nothing special.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Truly honest, heartwarming, humble and passionate people. Meeting new friends at every show is the best part of this whole music thing.
14. What do you think of our site?
It is so important to keep the scene alive and to support bands from every part of the world, even if they are just a small band from Germany like we are. Thank you, for being a part of this support and for expanding the musically horizon of all your followers.
Love/BTRY
