Interviews: Oceans
In this new occasion we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Hardcore band Oceans from UK. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
We really wanted to have a one word band name and we struggled to find something suitable for a while, until one day when one of us was watching Kerrang or Scuzz, the Mallory Knox song 'Oceans' came on. The word 'Oceans' felt so fitting and it was perfect. Fortunately this is not one of those stories where the band grows to despise their own name - we love 'Oceans'.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
The amazing thing about this genre is the amount of energy and emotion it demonstrates. It's reflective of our own personalities and you could say it is a cathartis. We love how big the sound is and how much power hard rock and alternative rock genres have.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Most of us knew each other previous to the band forming, from a music institution in Brighton we all studied at called BIMM. Our singer Zach was actually a very good friend of Oceans founding member Conor and when Zach heard about the vacancy for Ocean's new singer, he decided to jump at the opportunity, despite having absolutely no experience in rock music at all - and we're glad he took that leap of faith! Since starting the band, most of us have lived with each other, so we're very close friends as well as bandmates.
4. What's each band members favourite band?
Zach - Don Broco
Conor - Nirvana
Tom - Sylosis
Jack - Foo Fighters
James - Beatles
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We're quite a motivated band and are very easily inspired. All we have to do is listen to a good song and it would encourage us to reach for the guitar and start writing!
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was at The Monarch in Camden and it was actually one of our best shows!
7. Where would you like to perform?
We've been meaning to play Manchester since forever but have not yet been graced with that chance! It will definitely happen soon though...
8. Whom would you like to share a stage with?
Anyone but Gary Glitter!
9. Whom not?
Gary Glitter!
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Literally the best way to over come this is if you just stop fixating on what could go wrong and start thinking about how much fun you're about to have. Turn that fear into excitement! Works every time.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Probably: At The Drive In, Deftones and Incubus. Some of their musical traits have rubbed off on us without us intentionally emulating their sound.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Once on tour a fan was so off his nut, he asked to buy the same T-shirt from us about 28 times. He decided not to get one in the end...
13. What do you think of your fans?
Have nothing but serious, serious appreciation and love for them. Words can't describe our gratitude to people who listen to us and purchase our merch and music.
14. What do you think of our site?
I think it gives a great opportunity for bands to be heard! We've known of Breathing The Core for a long time now and it's good to see it grow into the brilliant music platform it is now.
15. Something to add?
Yes! On March 13th we're dropping a brand-spanking-new EP and it would be amazing if everyone gave it a spin! This is a big deal to us and we cannot wait to get this EP out so everyone can hear it.
