A-Z Interview: Youth Killed It
Indie Punk Crew Youth Killed It have been treating us oh so well recently, releasing a slew of singles in the lead up to the unveiling of their sophomore album. ‘What’s So Great, Britain’ sees the light of day via Rude Records on 5th October and is available to pre-order here, featuring instant grats of the singles including: lead single ‘Where Did I Go Wrong?’ (here); title track ‘What’s So Great, Britain?’ (here); the seasonally appropriate ‘Great British Summer’ (here) and finally, current release ‘Headbutt’ (here). Now the band are here to give us more insight into who they are, as they take the A-Z interview...
A Song Which Made You Want To Make Music:
Toto - Africa. No Question.
Best Album Ever Written:
Got to Be "Now that's what i call music 47", no 48! 48 was a solid album!
Craziest Moment You’ve Experienced In The Band:
Somebody once through a brick into our windscreen, that was definitely the scariest.
But craziest, has got to be seeing fans belting out the new tracks at IOW Festival. Incredible.
Deepest Lyrics One Of Your Songs Features:
“I don’t wanna man up, I ain’t afraid to cry. My heart is broke, I’m not afraid to die”
Easiest Song You Wrote:
"What's So Great, Britain?" Practically wrote itself!
Favourite Show You’ve Ever Played:
That's a hard one.... Gonna go with IOW Festival, most recent and still puts a smile on our faces.
Guest You’d Most Like To Feature On A Your Record:
Just 1? Hm.... Mike Skinner. But there’s so many artists we would love to work with.
Happiest Moment You’ve Experienced In The Band:
I can pin it down to a single moment, but there's a reoccurring one, when you come off stage knowing it went well.
There's just this feeling of complete bliss and respect for each other. It's pretty special.
Interesting Fact About One Of Your Members:
My (Taylor) Cousin dated Daniel Radcliffe for a few years, that was pretty interesting... and weird.
Jokes You Have In The Band:
There's this rumour going round that Thexton spent time in prison.... No idea where it came from, think it’s just a joke as Thexton is probably the nicest all round good guy you could meet!
Kicking Off Your Set Is Best With Which Song:
"What's So Great, Britain?" Title Track for the album and sets up for everything they are about to see, little bit of everything in that one
Longest Distance You’ve Travelled To Play A Show:
Texas. That's was a hell of a trip! Amazing time though, definitely worth it
Most Inspiring Musician You’ve Ever Experienced:
I think it would be different for every member, but for me (Taylor) Seeing Liam Gallagher live was pretty inspiring.
He still's owns that stage and captures the crowd like a "rock 'n' roll star".
New Band You’d Recommend:
Calva Louise! Amazing indie punk from London. Just Incredible.
Opening For This Band Would Be Ideal:
Would absolutely love to tour with the Don Broco boys, their shows are always super fun
Place You’d Most Like To Tour:
We love mainland Europe, the shows and fans are great, the locations are amazing and they always look after bands so well
Quote That You’d Like To Pass On To Readers:
When Making Tea, Never, Ever, Ever Ever Ever. Put The Milk In First. NEVER.
Reason For The Title Of Your Recent/Forthcoming Release:
"What's So Great, Britain?" Is a tongue and cheek statement on social commentary. We’re not putting down Britain, we love it! But sometimes you have to think further than this tiny Island we inhabit.
See Us Live At:
12th October - London - Notting Hill Arts Centre!
The Old Days Of Music Were Better Than Those Current, do you agree:
Never, they were amazing and still relevant as ever, but music evolves and there's more music available now than ever
Unusual Merchandise:
Nothing yet... but we have spoken about making "Youth Grilled It" Cooking utensils.
Variations You’d Like To Do On Any Of Your Songs:
We would be stoked to work with a full orchestra, make some insane atmosphere!
What Bands Have You Seen Live and Regretted:
I can't quit remember the name, but in the states we watched two guys shout over backing tracks while spitting on each. Very Intense.
X-rays or any other treatments needed for band related injuries:
Touch wood. We've had none. Well... Except sun burns and heavy heads the morning after.
You could have written any song in history, which would you pick:
Toto - Africa. Again no question. "I BLESS THE RAINS!!!!"
Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band:
Animals, shouldn't be kept in zoo's, but I'd say the Duckbilled Platypus. No Need to explain that one.
