Interviews: New Fiction

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Rock/Metal band New Fiction from USA. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name kind of just came I guess. We were all brainstorming names and New Fiction was the one we all liked!

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We all kind of grew up playing metal. As the years have passed we've all kind of branched out and taken interest in different kinds of music as well, so if you listen to our new record Let It Destroy You, I think you'll notice a mix of influences and genres!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Karl and Sam are brothers, so they have obviously known each other forever. Ryan and Dylan were members of other bands in the Denver scene that we met through music and just hanging in kind of the same crowds. By the time we started the band we were all good friends.

4. Each band member favourite band?

These all change on a weekly or daily basis probably, but to answer as best as possible:

Karl: Glass Animals and Bright Eyes at the moment
Dylan: Pianos Become The Teeth and The Plot In You's new record currently
Sam: Underoath long term, Post Malone currently
Ryan: Balance & Composure

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Current events and life in general. It is kind of hard to say what in specific, but sometimes something just comes along and you know you can write about it. Its so random that I have a difficult time even specifying what subject matter usually turns into something.

6. Where was your last gig?

Summit Music Hall in Denver for our CD release, but we will be out on the road again in just a few days! By the time you're reading this, its likely the answer won't be current.

7. Where would you like to act?

If this means perform, we would of course love to play Red Rocks in Denver someday. I'm into the off the beaten trail kind of stuff though, so I would love to play in countries where most bands never go.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

If this means who would we like to perform with, the answers are endless. I am down to tour with anyone with similar sensibilities, same genre or not. We make friends fast, so any cool, good artists out there are good with me.

9. Whom not?

Bad people. Not going to name anyone in specific, but bands and artists who seem to have perpetual drama and scandal. I'd even prefer to avoid the bad people who are never outed as bad people. But in the end,  we will take what we can get, and we give everyone a chance.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

A few times. Some of the bigger shows we have played have freaked me out a bit, especially one in particular. We played at The Fillmore in Denver with Asking Alexandria a few years ago and it was a huge show. Not only that, but it was our first show in months, and our first show with some new members. It went well, but it was a little intimidating. As far as advice goes, the only thing I can say is power through it. Stage fright can be good as long as you don't let it cripple you. If you have crippling stage fright that you just can't overcome, maybe a job behind the scenes is more fitting for you. There is no shame in not being the guy on stage. There are tons of industry jobs that might suite someone who hates being in front of a ton of people better.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Too many. We all have pretty diverse musical taste and it has evolved so much over the years that it is hard to say who has taken the most influence from where. I'd definitely say for me the foundational bands were Underoath, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, The Academy Is..., Municipal Waste, I don't know, the list could go on forever.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I've been asked for assorted sweaty items, which is kind of weird I guess. Sweaty towels, sweaty shirts, stuff like that. That is the strangest thing I can think of off hand.

13. What do you think of your fans?

This question is going to be inherently cliche, but obviously we love anyone who supports us. I wish I could know each and every person who does love our music so it didn't sound so general and lame. But if you back what we do, than we are birds of a feather as far as I am concerned and I thank you for everything you've done for me and my band.

14. What do you think of our site?

I believe this is the first time I've come across you guys, but I think what you're doing is great! I checked out the Facebook and it is amazing that you give a platform to underground artists and lesser known bands. I've even checked out a few bands from the Breathing in the Core news feed and I dig it!

15. Something add?

Go check out our new record "Let It Destroy You" on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Youtube, wherever. Come see a show if we are near you, and keep in touch! Thanks a lot for the interview.
