Interviews: Roof Down

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock/Alternative Rock band Roof Down from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We were looking for a name that stands for a great exciting moment for us and the audience. One of us remembered that Paul Stanley (Kiss) said 'let's bring the roof down' to the crowd at a live album, and we felt that was spot on what we wanted to do.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Our genre is some kind of post-grunge music. It was not a special choice, it just became that based on the members musical experience. The singers voice is also quite often said to sound like Eddie Vedder in Pearl Jam. It is some kind of a compliment.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, drummer Staffan and guitarist Mats know each other before during 5-7 years before they on a party came up with the idea to play together. Stupid that it took so long.

4. Each band member favourite band?

The drummer Staffan is Coheed and Cambria. The guitarist Mats gods is Led Zeppelin. The singer Johan has Seether as favorite. Basman Thobbe has Dizzy Mizz Lizzy.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Ordinary life and things that happened. Nearly everything. A song on the radio or web can start a process that led to a song. A track can be all from a ready song with text and music down to just a riff. We really work as a group when it comes to arranging the song. Everyone's suggestions is taken seriously. As we have a Danish person in the group, we have a saying – “Vi må prøve” (lets give it a shot). “How would this new song come out live", is the first question we ask ourselves when we play a new song for the first time.

6. Where was your last gig?

In a rock club in Stockholm. It was small and intimate with the snow falling outside. Really cozy. But we played so the snow melted …

7. Where would you like to act?

We been as public in Wacken Open Air festival in Germany, so to play there would be a big hnour.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Well – why not Pearl Jam!

9. Whom not?

Artists that has taken their all the way to a stage and have fans, we respect. So we can perform with all artist. But it would feel strange to share stage with some kids band …

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

We all get some time to time. It is good to be all little on the toe before you perform. It shall not become routine. So practice a lot before, go through the songs in the head before you sleep. But when you enters the stage be focused and be present. It is better to have fun and play a little wrong, than to be stiff and play perfect. 11. What bands have inspired you the most? Since we have a quite different musical preferences in the band, probably Stone Temple Pilots has inspired us most with the way of using odd harmonies.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Well, one not so sober man wanted to have our names written so he would tattoo them. He got it! Not sure if he did it when he woke up the day after …

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are of course fantastic. It’s amazing that our music can appeal to other people and give them so much that they want to come to our concerts.

14. What do you think of our site http://www.breathingthecore.com?

You get good information and fun to take part of bands from all over the world. Very good search function that allows you to explore bands in a quick way. Good interviews that make you get deeper knowledge of the bands.
