Track By Tracks: Inhepsie - Onirique (2019)
1. Ode à la nuit (ode to the night):
A tribute to the night ! To this time when everything is different and everything possible. This song heralds the end of the day. First softly then suddenly, guitars riffs blow up and run riot with all the beauties of the Sunset, its lights, its shadows, its stars…. life ! The chorus depicts the dream world, a time for imagination and creation. Choirs rise and a guitar solo lightens the way to visitors The end of the song let guess the sunrise. Drums burden, hammering. Then everything goes faster….. The night has changed to a new day. A cycle.
2. L’autre réalité (another reality):
The character moves away from reality to escape to a dream world, causing confusion among his close circle. While shifting, he’s moving away from friends and family. These lyrics talk about misunderstanding. This song offers a dual reading, cause I wrote it thinking about people with mental disease who, most of the time, have a very full inner life and are often misunderstood.
3. Est-ce important (does it matter):
In memory of my deceased mother. This very personnal text, voice and piano, deals with two people separating, one of them on her way into the beyond, leaving memories, fears and everything material. She’s rising into something different. She’s freed from earthly feelings, no more physical or emotional suffering. This is the elevation of human essence.
Here and there some violins and cellos, a few drums delicately forecast the arrival of backed chorus, highlighted by a double voice and heavy sounds of guitars which contrasts with the verses. Then a fully emotional solo accompanies the flight of the last chorus, which carries us softly to a voice-and-piano end.
4. L’indifférence (indifference):
This song is about the pain of the character who leaves this world to reach a dream world. He feels lonely, facing some kind of painful awareness, realizing that this is a lonesome trip. Following the song « Une autre réalité » which dealt with the misunderstanding of his close circle, this song talks about the steep ravine growing between two people who used to love each other, leaving nothing but a huge void.
Furious guitars and catchy violins carry us to the heart of the matter, where it’s all shaken and explosive. Then come the lyrics, yelling that sorrowful disregard, until the chorus and its vital question (« is it too late ? »)
5. Ce sentiment (this feeling):
This song explores the complexity of feelings and sensations, visiting the abysses of emotions, from the darkest to the brightest ones.
6. Oublier qui je suis (forgetting who I am):
This one is about feeling inadequate, out of place. The character expresses how complex it is to resonate with this world he can’t get a feel for. This is the very moment he’s striving for another life. He can’t stand anymore a body and a living that are nomore suitable.
The chaotic verses stand for this myriad of thoughts, so uncomfortable. Whereas the airy chorus bring hope again and offer a changing of essence which can make him free.
7. L’instant égaré (this lost moment):
This second very intimate song, with piano and voice as a mainthread, depicts an « acte manqué » : a last goodbye. I wrote it in memory of my father who died young from a long- term illness. It is an attempt to suspend time, for a lost and forgotten moment, to give life to this neverbeen minute.
8. Funambule ( tightrope walker)
In memory of a friend who ended his life. Like a tightrope walker, doing his best to keep his balance, but frail and hesitating, the character is haunted by his line : he knows he has to jump into the void. This song symbolizes the fight, in our minds, between chaos and discernment, when we could do something irreversible. It’s about the burden of other people's consideration - which sometimes is like a sentence - and the heavy standards of « good » and « bad ».
9. Onirique (dreamlike):
Main subject of the album, this song deals with the character as the creator of his own dreamworld. This world is the place which belongs to him and where he can come to fruition. It’s a real and beautiful deliverance. His imaginary world is openwide to all those who want to visit it.
10. Regrets (regrets):
It’s like an invitation, to all people wanting to get rid of their blockages, wether physical or mental and forsake everything slowing their blooming. All of you are invited into this world where everything is possible, easy and gentle. But bravery is required, you'll have to give up what you know to enter the unknown.
