Interviews: Obskkvlt

In this new occassion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band Obskkvlt from the Spain. Check out the interview and follow the band on their  FACEBOOK PAGE. 

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Athal-Berath: I was looking for an original name, I mean, non-common vocabulary. The idea was to create a new word by our own, but not a simple word without meaning. That brought the idea of merging two words that explain the main concept and style of the band: Obscure and Occult.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Athal-Berath: In 2014 Hrodiriks and I played in the same band, we have done shows and tours together for 12years. Obskkvlt was born from the need to express ourselves, our ideas and musical fantasies. These ideas were always clearly “Extreme Metal” but without any “style cliché”, so we started to research the elements that we love in these genres.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Athal-Berath: I think I just answered two questions in a row.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Athal-Berath: Never ONE fav. It's so difficult to choose, we listen to a lot of genres.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Athal-Berath: Obviously we do not use any band as a unique reference, we all have strong influences but we try really hard to make all our material sound like our own creation.

Hrodiriks: Concerning music, Hrodiriks sends his material to Athal-Berath, guitar layers, programmed drums,etc. Sometimes it's only parts, sometimes structures and a few times complete songs: Athal gives form to all that stuff when he adds his vocal layers, and he has also a privileged mind to create or transform structures.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our plan is to start playing live shows late this year...

7. Where would you like to act?

Anywhere where there would be people who like us.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

The featuring on the Album was Nick Barker at the drumkit, for us this is a dream come true.

9. Whom not?

We won't be able to play with Dimebag Darrel... it's sad.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I remember when Hrodiriks was a kid, in his first bands he played back to the crowd, due to stage fright.

Hrodiriks: It's true. Each case is different, in my case it was because of excessive perfectionism playing guitar which led to anxiety, other people may have other reasons for that. But everyone has a common thing: it's painful. And many people never overcome it.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I suppose that we are influenced by everything we listen to. We both love a great spectrum of bands and styles, because we just like music. I personally follow various new extreme tendencies like experimental music, dark folk, new black metal or doom. But in the mainstream “extreme metal” stream we love huge bands like Pantera, Decapitated, Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, and so on.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Everyone asks us about tribute bands (we play in a homage to Pantera, called Display of Power, since 2002). Every damn journalist in the Spanish State asks about tributes, which is so stupid. Is like a fucking nightmare.

13. What do you think of your fans?

That they doesn't know Obskkvlt yet, XD. Guys, you must to hear “Blackarhats”.

14. What do you think of our site?

Hrodiriks: Very cool site. I loved the tag by “country” to search for bands or interviews.
