Interviews: À l'Ombre d'Héméra
In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Metal/Post-Rock band À l'Ombre d'Héméra from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea of a band name, you planned it or it came out just like that?
Our music is a lot based on contrasts, in the old Greek mythology Hemera is the goddess of the daylight, so the band name means in the shadow of Hemera, we thought it represents well the contrasts and we also like the mystical touch it has.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We all come from very different musical backgrounds but we all have this passion for slow heavy music with a lot of feeling and depth in it and well the mix of our backgrounds makes the music we make I guess. We all had bands in other genres while listening to post-metal so I think we all just found in this project a band where we could play the music we actually were passionate about.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Pierre (guit), Mig (voc) and myself we were in another musical project when we were younger, so we know each other since a while, Eric (guit) and Pierre work together at the same job so they also know each other since some time and Chris (bass) was found after actively searching for a good bassist that fitted with the band and our personalities, we are very happy to have stumbled upon him!
4. Each band member favorite band?
Mig (voc) Buried Inside
Pierre (guit) Cult of Luna
Eric (guit) We Lost The Sea
Chris (bass) Alcest
Dieter (drum) Amenra
5. Who or what inspires you to make songs?
I think all five of us have an immense passion for music in general and each of us has experienced life in a way that translates into the music we make, life can be very heavy and all-destroying but also very fragile and beautiful. Lyrically it's often cynical and pessimist, but sometimes also metaphoric.
6. Where was your last gig?
That was last Friday in Quebec City for the release of the EP, with LEMP (stoner doom from Montreal) and Carey (post/punk/hc) from Thetford Mines.
7. Where would you like to act?
Actually, we would like to play anywhere, we're still a young band so we need to play as many shows as we can, we would love to go to Europe one day for a tour!
At the moment we're mostly looking for shows in the province of Quebec and the rest of Canada.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
I guess with all the big bands in our style of music of course, we would love to share the stage with bands like Cult of Luna or Amenra or Neurosis, but for now we need to be realistic haha, we don't really have preferences as long as people play with passion.
9. Whom not?
Personally, I wouldn't see the point in sharing a stage with nazi bands or shit like that but other than that I don't see the point in excluding bands.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
We all play music in bands since we are teenagers (10-15years), so I think we are passed that stage now lol but I think the trick is to just do what you love, play the music you like and make you passionate. I think whenever you play the music that you believe in yourself, that this shows to the people listening, and that they will be able to appreciate it.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Buried Inside / If these trees could talk / Isis / Cult Of Luna / Amenra / The Ocean Collective/ Colaris, there's too many and that's a good thing!
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I think we have really nice people as fans because I can't think of anything weird or funny at the moment.
13. What do you think of your fans?
That there can be a lot more??? hahahaha
14. What do you think of our site?
I think it's awesome and most necessary, there are so many media who cover big bands that everyone already knows, the world needs more media that focus on the smaller bands trying to grow their fanbase. Let me put it like this without media like you there would not be any music scene, it's as simple as that, so thank you for doing what you do!
15. Something to add?
Well if there are any promotors reading this we're actively looking for shows and open for any offers and since we released our EP only in an electronic version we are also looking for a label to help us with releasing vinyl and/or cd version. So any offers will be seriously considered!
We are dreaming about playing in Europe 2021 or later, but any help or suggestions are always welcome on that subject too.
Hope to see you at one of our shows one day!
