Interviews: OV LUSTRA
In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Symphonic Blackened Death Metal band OV LUSTRA from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
We planned the band name. Initially, it was Sun Speaker which is something Tyler came up with and developed a whole story around, but due to some conflict with an artist of the same name, different genre, we had to change our name and somehow keep the story intact; we decided on Ov Lustra.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We created this band because we wanted to create music that we as music fans would like to hear more of.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, Tyler and Randy met when they were in a band before this and Ryan and Tyler have been friends since childhood.
4. Each band member favorite band?
Randy: tie between Behemoth and Job For A Cowboy
Tyler: Behemoth
Ryan: Wretched
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Randy: Usually I just get a riff in my head or a chord progression and just go from there.
Tyler: I’ll build a series of chord progressions and construct a shell and hand it off to Ryan and Randy and let them work their magic. As for inspiration, that comes from the books I read, or albums I listen to, all the way to my day to day experiences.
Ryan: Being in a group with these two is incredible because it allows me to shine at what I do best. I take a composition given and add parts or make changes based on what else I hear going on inside my head. Being able to play by ear really helps.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our first CD release at Club Red in April 2018.
7. Where would you like to act?
We'd like to play anywhere outside of Phoenix, honestly, but would love to play in Europe.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Randy: We've had a few artists feature on our music, but if I could have any one of my choosing feature on our music it'd likely be Jonny from JFAC or Nergal from Behemoth.
Tyler: yeah, I’m definitely with randy on this one.
Ryan: What they said.
9. Whom not?
I don’t think anyone of us has really ever actively thought who we don’t want to work with. So, we don’t really have an answer for that.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Randy: I get nervous every time before I perform, but it usually subsides once I'm actually on stage.
Tyler: I’ve been doing this for a while now, and pre-show jitters are always a thing. But the minute I step foot on stage, a very different part of me takes over and that’s all she wrote. What you see on stage vs what you see when I’m in a crowd are two different people.
Ryan: after playing guitar for nearly 14 years, my first time on stage was late April of 2018. I was slightly anxious, and it more so tried to set in the set prior to ours. But as soon as I got on stage I just tried my best not to overthink it and just let muscle memory take over.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Randy: Behemoth, Dark Funeral, Job For A Cowboy, Fleshgod Apocalypse
Tyler: Behemoth, Dark Funeral, Belohegor, Zhrine, Worsen
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Randy: I once had a fan yell "show us your butthole" from the crowd while I was on stage.
Tyler: I was once asked “if you could be any kind of space dinosaur, would you be a space brontosaurus or a space T-Rex” I’ve never been so speechless in my whole life.
Ryan: I had a girl yell "let's do anal" and that was kind of rad.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Randy: I think they're incredible! Their support is what keeps me going.
Tyler: good question! Our fans are a big reason that we do what we do. Sounds cliche, but it’s the truth. I mean, I get handwritten letters from fans telling me how thankful they are and it’s awesome. Because they return so much of the love we give them, and that just makes the thisbwhole thing worth doing.
Ryan: Everyone has been wonderfully supportive every step of the way. We try our best to do something unique, and everyone that pays it heed seems to really enjoy it.
14. What do you think of our site?
It's awesome, and we’re incredibly grateful for this opportunity to interview with you!
15. Something add?
Our newest album 'Tempestas' is now out via Black Lion Records! Thank you to all of those who’ve been supporting us from the get-go, and a thank you to the new fans we will pick up on the way. You'll is loved.
