Interviews: Cult Of Sorrow
In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Doom Metal/Stoner Rock band Cult Of Sorrow from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Hi! This is Jerry Lovett from Cult Of Sorrow here with you today. The band's name came after some careful thought on it. Cults prey on the sorrows of people by giving them a place in life they feel welcome and wanted in. Our band is the kind of cult I would feel welcome in.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
The music of the doom genre is basically like that of the music I grew up with, learning how to play guitar too, and getting into music with. It was the music of the late 60's, 70's and early 80's I heard in so many bands of this genre that made it a perfect fit for me.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
It's about half and half. I knew the other guitarist, Pete since I was about 12 years old and our original drummer, Bob, for around 12 years. We grabbed our bass player, Joe off an ad on Craigslist. We do have a new drummer now, Nate, whom none of us really knew until he joined the band back in March of 2019.
4. Each band member favorite band?
It's really hard for us to pick just one, but here it goes.
Jerry - Led Zeppelin
Joe - Queensryche
Pete - RHCP,
Nate - My Dying Bride
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy/Randy Rhoads, Early Metallica, The Beatles, Elvis, Aleister Crowley, Anton LaVey, Robert Cochrane, Andrew Chumbley, Paul Huson, The Temple of Set, 70's euro horror, anything occult. Life.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was the Doomed and Stoned Ohio Fest. We played last years and it is one of our favorites!
7. Where would you like to act?
Madison Square Gardens
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
The biggest acts in doom metal
9. Whom not?
Justin Bieber
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Yes, but mostly beforehand. Once the music gets going and you are out on stage it normally goes away
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
The elders of our craft. All the heavy music of the late 60's, 70's and early 80's.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I really can't say that anyone has ever asked anything weird from us yet. We are just starting to get out on the road though, so it's probably coming (laughs)
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are the best! The doom genre has some of the most devoted people of any genre I've been around. They are amazing!
14. What do you think of our site?
It's great! Any site that pushes bands just starting out is a huge help for us!
15. Something add?
Our new album, Invocation Of The Lucifer, comes out September 20th on Black Doomba Records. If you are into old school metal and hard rock, give it a listen. Better yet, pick up a copy on vinyl or cd. Thanks for having us on!
