Interviews: Dead Wolvs
In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Dead Wolvs from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Nick: It just popped into my head one day and when I consulted with Chad about it, it felt like the right pick.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Nick: Ever since the first metal song I heard, Her Voice Resides by Bullet For My Valentine, I’ve wanted to do nothing more than play that style of music.
Chad: I really resonated with the energy of the music. The stage performances, interactions with the crowd, loud guitars, it spoke to me and I knew that I wanted to play that aggressive music and to put on that performance. I love it.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Chad: Yes. Nick and I were in a band together back in 2010 and we played and wrote in that band for about a year and went our separate ways until we reconnected around 2016.
Nick: When we reconnected it was me asking Chad to join an existing project that didn’t take off but we loved working with each other so much that we wanted to make Dead Wolvs. We work really well together and have the same vision for this project and that’s just something you don’t get very often
4. Each band member favorite band?
Nick: It’s definitely a tie between Green Day & The Devil Wears Prada
Chad: Underøath for sure. I remember my friend back in middle-school gave me an Emery CD but she actually gave me the wrong one and it turned out she handed me Define The Great Line and that beginning of In Regards To Myself with the projector starting up and that badass opening riff is implanted in my mind forever. I think that was the first time I ever heard a band scream and I was instantly hooked.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Chad: I’m inspired a lot by challenging myself creatively. Music is art and art comes from within. It comes from personal experiences, feelings, thoughts, etc. I channel those things in my songwriting but what really inspires me is challenging myself to not write the same stuff over and over again. Each time Nick and I will be writing a song I’m always coming up with ideas like “I’ve never written a part like this, so let’s experiment with that” or “Let’s try using a different structure in this song. That’s something we haven’t done yet.” It’s things like that really keep me inspired
Nick: My ability to be completely honest with myself and how I view everything that goes on in my life that I may not have any other way of expressing. Sometimes it’s really tough to express what you’re feeling. So, I use music to show the real me.
6. Where was your last gig?
Nick: A really great local venue called “HITTS”. There used to be some amazing shows there but now no one really books it anymore. I think it got new owners and didn’t want to shows there anymore which is such a shame. I miss that place.
Chad: HITTS is where we bonded a lot and met some great friends. Some of my best memories are at that venue.
7. Where would you like to act?
Chad: I’ve always been a huge sucker for London.
Nick: I would say Japan and New Zealand. They are both beautiful places and I find the culture fascinating.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Nick: Both Chad and myself have talked about this before and we would really love to collaborate with Silent Planet. It was something we both said out loud at almost the same time. It would be an honor to work with them in any capacity.
9. Whom not?
Chad: That’s a hard question to answer. I would just say someone that wouldn’t fit our style. As in, someone we wouldn’t work well with and would try and detour our vision to something we’re not and something we aren’t comfortable creating.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Nick: I have anxiety off stage but when I get on stage it amplifies it a little bit. My tip for beginners is to push forward as much as you can and if you are thinking to do something or want to say something push through and just do it because 9 times out of 10 people are enjoying your performance.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Nick: Our Last Night, Underøath, The Color Morale. Those bands have inspired me to approach writing in a way that is more dynamic.
Chad: Underøath, Brand New, All Get Out and a band that I recently discovered, Boston Manor. I really love their Be Nothing album and I really admire the way they structure their songs. That album has really been inspiring me going forward writing our next album. Along with Underøath’s Erase Me record.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Chad: My shoes. When I was in a previous project I played a show in St. Louis and I fan asked if I could have my shoes. I probably would’ve given them to her if I had an extra pair on me.
Nick: I was asked to use my band as a school project. And I don’t remember what the project was in particular.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Chad: They are very generous with the support of moving our music forward. If we announce we are releasing new merch or announce a new show, our fans are always reaching out to attend or support. I appreciate that love and support so much.
14. What do you think of our site?
Nick: I was really impressed with the quality of the website not only in layout but with the content produced as well.
Chad: Yes, I totally agree. I can tell there’s a lot of passion behind what you’re creating and sharing. You can tell there’s a lot of love behind it all
15. Something add?
Nick: We are starting to perform more live and are really loving that, so stay tuned for shows in your local area in the future and possible tours. Our EP “What Doesn’t Kill You” is available for purchase and streaming everywhere on the internet. If you take the time to purchase or listen to it just know that from the bottom of our hearts, that we love and appreciate it.
Chad: We are really proud of our music. Nick and I wrote this entire EP just the two of us and it’s a passion project that came to life and I’m very grateful to be playing this genre of music. We have new members that are just as passionate as us. Our Drummer Niven and our Bassist Nic. As much as Nick and I loved writing this EP together it will be really nice to work as a bigger team with people that are equally as passionate at creating music and performing live for people to enjoy. Also, thank you so much to Breathing The Core for allowing us to be apart of your website and for taking the time to interview us.
