Interviews: MAD-ERA
In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band MAD-ERA from Spain. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like
that?
The band’s name is a reflection of society and the weird times we live today with this
technological era. It actually came as an inside joke me (Robert, guitar/vocals) and Alex
(bass) had. We would share old records like high voltage from AC/DC and compare the
guitar sound to wood (Madera in Spanish) and when we were looking for names for the
band, as a mistake we separated ‘’mad from era’’ and it turned into MAD-ERA which is
a simile for crazy times.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Well…It wasn’t something we did intentionally,
it just came organically, so I guess we were not aware of the genre that we wanted to
play, that is one of the reasons why we fuse so many styles of music together.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yeah, Alex and I worked
together on a previous project and we found Luis (drums) through an advertisement.
4. Each band member favorite band?
Alex’s take on that would be Black Sabbath, on
the other side Luis (drums) would take a much more modern approach choosing Casey
as his favorite band. Me myself I don’t know what to answer but if I was left alone on
an island just being able to listen to one band I would probably choose AC/DC.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Wow, that requires pages as an answer, a
lot of different stuff, Ozzy, Pantera, Black Sabbath, Korn, Pink Floyd, Ghost, Eric
Clapton, Guns n Roses, Judas Priest and even other non-metal artists like Die Antwoord
or Eminem…
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was on Galia Metal fest about a year ago
(2018).
7. Where would you like to act?
This is not a hobby for anyone of us, we work very
hard as a band and we make a lot of sacrifices to takes this to where we believe it
deserves to be, so back to your question, we would love to play in the biggest arenas,
stadiums all around the world.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
It would be amazing for us to open for people
like Ozzy, Korn, Ghost, Alice in Chains, Black Label Society or Alter Bridge, we think
sonically we have more in common with bands like that than with any Spanish band.
9. Whom not?
Every door is open for us.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to
beat that?
Yeah sure, every fucking night, but if you learn to control it, it becomes an
ally more than an enemy, there is a metaphor that I love that compares fear to fire, it can
burn yourself but if you use it smartly it can burn a city so… it’s really up to you. As far
as tips… just do it anyway, that’s the only way to go really.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Pretty much the same bands that inspire us
to write songs, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Korn, Ghost, Judas Priest, Slayer, AC/DC, Pink
Floyd, Clapton, etc. For me personally, it was AC/DC that made me wanna pick up a
guitar when I was 11 and later on I freaked out when I first listened to Pantera as a teenager.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I remember one time there
was this guy that wanted us to sign his back for him to get a tattoo of that.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We love them to death and we owe them, they are
very special people, people that think for themselves and follow no trends in life.
14. What do you think of our site?
It's cool.
