Interviews: Above Us The Waves,
In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Above Us The Waves from Greece. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
It was planned meticulously for many years following the orders of secret manuscripts. Each member had to go on a secret quest. We spend many years lost in ancient books and libraries hidden in old monasteries. Each of us carefully selected a word guided by divine signs and upon our return the pieces feel into place. The earth shook and the name was revealed to us. It is still a mystery though how a 4 letter name came from 5 members but it is a cool story.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We are the genre that we define as our genre
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Vasilis (guitar) met Dinos (bass) through an ad for band members in college (so old school!) and started what turned to be AUTW back in 2009. That's when they reached to Vangelis (vocals) that was playing in another local band to help out with some live shows but that turned to be a long term relationship if not a successful marriage! George (guitars) joined just before recording our first album and due to our first drummer moving to Canada, Stratos (drums) was the last one to join the gang!
4. Each band member favourite band?
I'll take the liberty to answer for all members:
Vasilis (just songs with catchy choruses)
Vangelis (Every Time I Die and mainly hipster core)
George (Periphery and other nerdy staff)
Stratos (Balkan ska)
Dinos (DOOM, Post and depressive black metal to suit his mood)
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Mainly What. Good lad!
6. Where was your last gig?
The last gig was in a small Greek city called Kozani in a very nice local metal festival. We had a blast and nice souvlaki! We also did a show with Bullet for my Valentine earlier this year in Thesslaoniki, Greece. We shook hands with their roadies so we felt really important! Gus.G. was also in the crowd! fuck yes!
7. Where would you like to act?
Our dream has always been to play in the below cities and guess what! we have a tour coming up sooo.. we ARE ACTUALLY MAKING OUR DREAM COME TRUE?!!?

8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Metallica. We owe them a favor so we will say yes if they ask.
9. Whom not?
Megadeth. They owe Metallica so we cannot go around Lars' back.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
The only tip. When you just took a piss and feel like you want to piss again right before you go on stage, YOU DON'T! Be a man, get on the stage and stay away from the bathroom. Worst case you pee on yourself that why we wear black!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
For us inspiration is growing older while still doing what you love. Staying relevant without altering the basis of your sound and staying fresh while conveying your message and philosophy clearly. So this perfectly sums up what Alice In Chains is.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Sex
13. What do you think of your fans?
See above ❤️
14. What do you think of our site?
If it started with the word "Porn" it would come 2nd on our browser history and this mean success!! We love you!
15. Something add?
We will be on tour very very soon! We are doing everything completely DIY, booking the shows, driving the van, sleeping on floors and possibly losing our money. So if you live in one of the cities mentioned above or know somebody who does spread the word around for our little generic metalcore band! We will be thrilled to meet you and talk politics, human rights, norwegian black metal, sailing and guitar gear!
