Interviews: Atavistia

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Epic Metal band Atavistia from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Mattias: I had many different names in mind before I chose Atavistia but I have to hand the credit to my friend who put the name together for me. Atavistia is a creation from the word “Atavistic” which fits quite well into the concepts of the music.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Dalton: We want to play this genre not only because is it challenging, but fun to play as well.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Mattias: The music to the debut was written and recorded back in 2015 but the band was formed in early 2017. I met Dalton shortly before I released the debut, “One Within The Sun” After the release, I began searching for live members and slowly but surely, I met the rest of the guys.

Dwayne: When I first arrived in Vancouver, someone I met suggested I should play bass for Atavistia. After listening to One Within The Sun, I immediately contacted Mattias because the style of Atavistia suits my playing style and I knew I had to be apart of the band.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Mattias: There are too many bands to choose from but our current album on rotation is “Wings Of Fire” by Brymir.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Mattias: Nature, space, and ancient history play a big part in the music of Atavistia.

6. Where was your last gig?

Mattias: Edmonton, Alberta at the starlight room. It was a killer show and it reinforced us why we want to do this!

7. Where would you like to act?

Mattias: Europe is where we would like to play as it’s where most of our fans are from.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Dwayne: A number of artists. Recently we contacted I.C.S Vortex as we found he’s vocal style would be perfect for the track on the new album. Unfortunately, he was very busy with the release of the latest Borknagar album. Hopefully, we can work with him in the future.

9. Whom not?

Creativity is limitless. We don’t want to limit anybody out quite yet.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Dalton: First things first, go to the bathroom, stare into the mirror and be very self critical.. break 3 large eggs into glass, plug your nose, and pour it down the drain followed by slamming a beer at the bar!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Mattias: Wintersun, Xanthochroid, Ensiferum, and Dimmu Borgir have been my main influences over the years but recently, I’ve been really inspired by such acts as Wardruna and Heilung.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Dalton: A hip hop artist asking to purchase a “beat” from one of our new songs after the clip was posted online...

13. What do you think of your fans?

Mattias: Very dedicates, patient, and respectful. Even the people whom are on the fence regarding our musical influences are still very supportive and positive. 

14. What do you think of our site?

Dalton: We’re very thankful for having the opportunity to participle in this interview.

Mattias: Our bassist doesn’t actually exists. He’s just a crisis actor from Australia.
