Interviews: Crostpaths
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Crospaths from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
After compiling an extensive list of potential (but pretty naff!) names, it simply came down to the fact we have all "crossed paths" thanks to music. It's also a vague portmanteau of 2 very awesome bands (Crossfaith & Stray From The Path).
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
It's almost a compromise as much as it is mutual ground for us all. A sweet midpoint between Nu-Metal and Metalcore, with the ability to delve off into other directions. It's something that inspires and motivates us all despite each having varying individual tastes.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes & no. We had "crossed paths" as mentioned before but it was due to previous bands we were all in.
We decided to stick together to start this thing and it's going alright so far!
4. Each band member favorite band?
Mace (Drums): Mammal
Mikey (Guitars): Bring Me The Horizon
Owain (Bass): Jimmy Eat World
Ritchie (Vocals): Linkin Park
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Our heroes inspire us to reach their great heights, whilst our peers inspire us to keep our feet on the ground and put that graft in.
A bad day could inspire a badass song, a good day could inspire some infectious grooves.
A desire to experiment but also attempt to replicate sounds that we all know we enjoy.
Anything and everything to be honest, it really is that vague, ha.
6. Where was your last gig?
Individually we'd be here all day, but as Crostpaths, our debut gig is set for 14th February at The Penny Theatre, Canterbury. Shout outs to Seething Akira, Deaf Row, Tides of Ire and On The Radar Promotions.
7. Where would you like to play?
We're from Kent, so the famous London venues spring to mind as that's where we've gone to see our favourite bands.
First rung on the aspirational ladder would be The Underworld in Camden, then to delve into pipe dream territory it'd be the likes of Camden's Roundhouse, Hammersmith Apollo, Brixton Academy.
The holy grail of Download Festival would be the ultimate goal.
8. Who would you like to support?
SO many bands!
Rage Against the Machine, A Day To Remember, Dream State, Amity Affliction, Limp Bizkit, Mammal, Fever 333, Stray From The Path... We could be here all day!
9. Who not?
We'd like to say we'd never turn down a gig out of principle.
Absolutely cannot stand the likes of The X-Factor and the superficial fame it stands for, but could you imagine a Rock/Metal band being given the platform to represent our genre on live primetime TV? Any chance to reach new ears should be seen as a positive.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Not for many years.
If you can handle your alcohol, maybe some dutch courage will settle your nerves (but not too many!).
Everybody's different though. The main thing is to channel that nervous energy and harness it as your ally.
That adrenaline will have you firing on all cylinders. If you make a mistake just play through it and keep going. Remember that even the best f*** up occasionally. We're all human after all.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Mace (Drums): Mammal, Zebrahead, Linkin Park, Nickelback, Limp Bizkit, Bring Me The Horizon
Mikey (Guitars): Bring Me The Horizon, but I'd like to shout out some local / underground acts in Enquire Within and M.I.N.D (the latter of whom feature our own honorary 5th member, keyboardist & producer Erim Ahmet). Owain (Bass): Jimmy Eat World, Rush, Pink Floyd, Linkin Park and Rage Against the Machine
Ritchie (Vocals): Linkin Park, The Streets, Papa Roach, Limp Bizkit, Run The Jewels, Paramore
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
An autograph. Although they also wanted account numbers and sort codes...
13. What do you think of your fans?
They keep us cool in the summer. Prefer air-con though...
14. What do you think of our site?
Slick and a fantastic outlet to discover new music.
15. Something to add?
The closing credits of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
