Interviews: The Retinas
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band The Retinas from the USA. Check out the interview, follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE and stream their latest album HERE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
We got it from a psychology textbook. We were learning about the the eye and the brain, and the retina is the what translates light into color. We think thats similar to what music does.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We don’t really play a specific genre, we play whatever we can and however it comes out. We get labeled as punk a lot of the times, but we want to play anything from country to punk, not get tied into something.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yeah Andy and Thomas grew up together, and Thomas and Anthony have played together for a decade. Andy played in the scene for a while with other bands, and then we all came together.
4. Each band member favorite band?
Ant- Led Zeppelin
Andy - The Wiggles
Thomas - The Strokes
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Anything really, life experiences, art, movies, books, work, relationships. Seeing other musicians play a killer show is always really inspiring.
6. Where was your last gig?
Bourbon and Branch in Philadelphia
7. Where would you like to act?
In a movie???
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
J. Cole
9. Whom not?
The Teletubies
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
It’s usually the anticipation, once you get on stage its all muscle memory and once you sink into the music your body/mind to the rest.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
The Strokes, The Replacements, and Pixies
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
How my uncle was doing and if I could give him a valentine
13. What do you think of your fans?
They’re amazing, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without them
14. What do you think of our site?
It's sweet!
