Interviews: Sarcasm
In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band Sarcasm from Sweden. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
I came up with the name back in 1990. I just thought it sounded cool. At that time there were no bands active with that
name I think. A rather sinister name actually if you know the origin of the word.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Because this is what is most interesting for us to play. To play simple one-dimensional death metal would bore the hell
out of this band I guess. There must be variety, challenge and catchiness at the same time for it to be exciting. Other
styles of music would not suit us also. And rap metal or any other kind of crap metal is out of the question!
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yeah, we have been friends for a long time now.
4. Each band member favorite band?
Only one? If we must say, I would say mine is Voivod, Peter’s favorite band is Ramones, Anders: W.A.S.P., Alvaro: Bach or
Wagner (Great bands!) and Jonas: Harlan Cage
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I don’t know what’s going on inside Peter’s head when he composes music, he says every riff is just there and he just
puts everything together. When I write lyrics, the words just comes to me, an inner voice whispers the words to me. I
guess I inspire myself.
6. Where was your last gig?
Scandinavia Deathfest in Stockholm October 12
7. Where would you like to act?
I don’t know, everywhere?
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
If I understand the question correctly, my band members first and foremost. But it would be nice to have my favorite
singers Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry to guestsing for us in the future. But they would most likely laugh at the idea.
9. Whom not?
Everyone else
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I don’t think so, some of us perhaps felt nervous in the past but not much anymore I think. My tip is: Drink less alcohol
before you go on stage
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
We are huge fans of the 80s metal, mostly thrash and death metal from that time. Also some punk music and other crazy
stuff. Too many bands to mention. And me personally I always loved the vocals and lyrics of bands like Dark Angel and
Sabbat (UK), you know, bands that had massive amount of interesting lyrics in their songs. I’m not saying that I write
about the same subjects like those bands but I get lots of inspirations from those guys as far as vocals/lyrics
arrangements are presented.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Some guy asked me if I could sing “Happy Birthday” (in a growling voice) and record it for his friend who was at the
hospital for something. And the other day someone asked us if we want to play on some hippie-spring-celebrating
festival in India, with no metal bands whatsoever. I told the guy, you know we’re a death metal band right? I thought
they sent the mail to the wrong band but they really want us there. Weird!
13. What do you think of your fans?
We love our fans! They are loyal, I’ve always seen them as genuine metal lovers instead of those, you know, posers
who’s priorities are image, corpse paint or trve this or necro that. I don’t think those people even like us because we’re
not “evil” enough for them, and we don’t care.
14. What do you think of our site?
Awesome site! Keep up the good work and support true music!
15. Something add?
