Interviews: Shouting At The Robots
In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band Shouting At The Robots from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
We have absolutely no memory of where it came from. Chewk and Julian came up with it when they were
teenagers and we ended up resurrecting it during the naming process. So it definitely just came out that
way.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
In our writing we never really set out to adhere to any kind of strict genre and I think that shows in our
tendency to go all over the map, even within a song itself.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yeah, we've all known each other for 20+
years
4. Each band member favorite band?
We're all such big music nerds with wide reaching taste that I
don't think any of us could choose just one.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Almost anything these days, we live in a very inspiring
time. And that's not necessarily a positive. We're never going to write another “blah blah Trump is bad”
song because while that's totally true, it's also the theme of the day. Everyone is making a protest album.
Our songs are more a protest of the more minute bullshit of life; mental health and it's effect on how we
interact with other people, the desire to get out of your boring 9 to 5 and go live in the woods or
something, etc. Whether or not we do it any good is another story, but that's the idea behind most of the
songs. Ideally, we'd like to write more about food and buildings too.
6. Where was your last gig?
At the very first place we ever played, the John Barleycorn in Owego, New
York.
7. Where would you like to perform?
Wherever we can set up our gear
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
Anyone that has a similar kind of outlook to us, not even
musically but just any band who we can have fun with who also aren't a bunch of jerks.
9. Whom not?
All those jerks
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
As a
group of awkward dudes, I think we all get stage fright to a degree. One tip from a singers perspective is
NOT to drink alcohol before playing because you'll dry out your vocal cords reeeeal fast. In general it's
just important to remember that the crowd usually won't notice if you fuck up small, and if it's a big
mistake you just roll with it and get on with the show.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
The ones we've played with who show us the ropes,
honestly. Because we still don't really have a clue what we're doing and we're nothing but thankful for
everyone who's helped us learn from their mistakes. Also The Clash.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We've had one guy ask us to all sign his
copy of our first album. That's only weird because, like, our signatures have zero value. Maybe he was
just being hopeful. Aren't we all?
13. What do you think of your fans?
They're great! Anyone who actually gives a damn about what we
do is awesome and we love 'em for it.
14. What do you think of our site?
Your design is great, look at all those Halloween-ish colors. I'm all
about it, man. And your coverage of subgenres is waaay extensive, very cool.
15. Something to add?
Don't forget the struggle, don't forget the streets!
