Interviews: The Hot One Two
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band The Hot One Two from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Good question! It came from a heated game of beer pong between Manners (Guitar) and Joe (Drums) in the early days of the band before we’d settled on a name. Manners landed a shot and exclaimed “Hit ‘em!”, he then landed another on the trot and shouted “Hit ‘em with a Hot One Two!” and thus the name was born!
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I think I can speak for the whole band when I say Rock was the core genre that first peaked our interest in music and inspired us to want to learn our chosen instruments. For me at least, watching AC/DC live at Donnington for the first time at the age of 12 was enough to kick-start my love for drums and all things Rock!
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Nick (Bass) and Joe have known each other since their early teens and met Manners (for all their sins) whilst studying Music together at University. Simon magically appeared around last Christmas when the band had a huge singer shaped hole to contend with - let’s just say he was a gift from Santa after we parted ways with our previous singer!
4. Each band member favorite band?
Nick – Motley Crue
Manners – Motley Crue
Simon – Queen
Joe - Thrice
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Day to day experiences and life events that hopefully others can relate to in regards to lyrical content. As for the music backing it, Nick, our core writer is just an all out Writing-Machine. The guy just plays and records whatever he’s feeling at the time, mainly stemming from just a simple riff and building upon it and just seeing where it goes!
6. Where was your last gig?
Melbourn Rock Club in mid-November – it’s an amazing little locally run Rock Community Club who host the best Rock acts on the NWOCR scene that the UK has to offer (New Wave of Classic Rock – for those who don’t know)
7. Where would you like to play?
Headling Download Mainstage baby! That’s the dream. But honestly I’d take a Sunday opening slot on that stage and I’d say we’ve made it!
8. Who would you like to support?
My god... Tough question. I think the bulk of the band would say they’d love to open up for Crue, just to be able to stand on the same stage and watch from the wings would be enough in itself!
9. Who not?
I’d honestly say we’d be happy to share a stage with anyone but obviously there’s acts that you wouldn’t pair us with based on genre alone.
So with that in mind let’s just go with Enya.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I think it’s honestly normal and to be expected to feel slightly nervous before any show – nerves show you care, you WANT to play well, you want to impress and do an awesome job on stage. I think even the greats who have graced the stage thousands of times in their career would still feel nerves before a show to this day. I maybe wrong, but that’s my thought on the matter at least. EMBRACE the nerves, they help you perform even better! Or neck a couple of pints before you jump on stage.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Individually we all have our own influences for our chosen disciplines, but there are a few mutual bands that I think brought us all together; AC/DC, G’n’R, Queen, Crue, Black Stone Cherry, Foo Fighters – all the classic rock greats and their new-age counterparts basically!
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I had a fan ask me for a bite of my Ginster’s pasty after a gig before (Other named brand Pasty alternatives are available). I gave them a bite. It was a chicken and mushroom slice. They had a real distaste for mushrooms and literally threw up on the spot. Not really weird but a fun story none-the-less!
13. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans are our friends and future - and we look forward to and hope to make many more along the way! Without them we wouldn’t be doing what we do and wouldn’t have anyone to share the stage and show with. Anyone that follows us is a member of the band, part of The Hot One Two as a whole, and we thank you for your continued support!
14. What do you think of our site?
It’s an excellent platform for anyone & everyone to discover new Rock, Metal, Alternative music and every sub-genre in between! Super easy to navigate and quality, captivating content. You can very easily lose track of time when browsing on Breathing The Core and me for one have discovered a tonne of new bands which I never would have found out if it weren’t for the site, that’s for true!
15. Something to add?
Firstly, thank you for featuring us on the site and secondly - be sure to check out our upcoming Christmas Single – “Pints of Cheer”, out Dec 13th!
