Interviews: The Luminary Plot
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band The Luminary Plot from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
The original name we had chosen was Arktos, which another band in our area already happened to have so we had to make the change.
After that, we were settled on the word Luminary but just that didn't sit right with all of us so we decided to add something else to it and give it some colour I guess you could say.
We chose The Luminary Plot because it was something that brings to mind secrecy, and a general "cloak and dagger", someone or something working behind the scenes, hoping to pique imagination and curiosity a little bit.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We all love different varieties of heavy music, but we all work together well on this melodic metalcore idea because we have crafted a bit of a sound for ourselves in it. Kade and I (Jesse), played guitar in a more melodic death metal-inspired band previously, and when that dissolved we started writing music that was more rooted in post-hardcore and less reliance on technicality. Sometimes you can say a lot more by saying less. We have been described as "brutal but beautiful" by people who have seen us, and that really stuck with us as a group.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes! Mostly, anyway. As I mentioned, Kade and I played in a band together and have been friends for a long time. Bradyn, our founding bass player who has gone on to pursue other things, was a classmate of ours in college. Dan, our new bassist played in another local metal band with Kade. Jared is a drummer who briefly replaced the drummer in our old band, and was reconnected with us through Bradyn. Lastly, we connected with Kalie through the internet after we had jammed together for a couple of months and everything fell into place really nicely from there.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Jesse - Norma Jean
Kade - A Wilhelm Scream
Jared - The Browning
Kalie - Harakiri for the Sky
Dan - Metallica
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Musically, we like to write songs that make people move. We love dynamic music that moves from soft, quiet sections and then crushes listeners with a wall of sound when they least expect it.
Kalie writes all the lyrics for these songs, and says it best herself: "My lyrics are inspired by personal experiences, social issues and science fictions, aiming to capture resonation about people's psychological exploration and perspectives on humanity."
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was an all-ages show at a place in Calgary called McHugh House, it's a heritage building in the core of our city that is hosting a lot of shows lately. It was a good time!
7. Where would you like to act?
Well, being realistic about it, we are hoping to break out a little bit in our region, and play shows and festivals in Western Canada.
Ideally, though, something crazy like Wacken Open Air would be really, really cool.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
It would be really sweet to feature with our “sounds like” bands.
9. Whom not?
Tough question, we would probably just stay away from EDM artists.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Yes! Big breath, and do your thing. Always remember you're probably the coolest person/people in the room when you're on that stage. Own that shit. Enjoy the stage and you practically can’t be afraid of something you enjoy.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Lamb of God is another metal band we think has had a great, long career and has cultivated a loyal fanbase. It would be so cool to come close to that level of success.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Not that weird, but free merch.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We don't know very many of them as we are still early in this journey, but we would sure like to!
14. What do you think of our site?
It looks awesome! Very nice layout and has tons of good stuff to dig for! You're bookmarked now, to comb through for new music when the mood strikes.
15. Something add?
"Keep on rockin in the free world" - The Scorpions, - Kade Wolfe "
