Interviews: Generation Underground
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Nu-Metal/Hard Rock band Generation Underground from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where does the band name come from?
The name of the band comes from the Motionless In White song Generation Lost.
2. What initially drew you to nu-metal/thrash?
Was there a band that you remember making you think "this is my shit"?
I think just the simple fact that the guys & gals in most of these bands dressed in basketball jerseys & shorts and that there was something that I didn’t know metal bands did. & I think the fact that their music and lyrics I related to a lot more definitely made a big difference!
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
No not really, some band members we’ve had We've grown up with or knew, some I’ve met along the way. But nowadays I get along with all our former members to at least some degree which is nice.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
My would-be Slipknot & Brandon Ryan’s would-be State Champs lol
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I would say my life experiences inspire me to write songs. I have an extremely supportive family & friend group that always push me to get more out of myself and this band.
6. Tell us about your favorite gig?
My favorite gig personally was when we played the Rhode Island date of Summer Slaughter last summer. The crowd went wild & the people were extremely receptive & supportive. Brandon Ryan’s would be when we played has to be the album release show it was just such a great time all together before during and after our set it was just fun all the time.
7. Where is your dream venue?
My dream venue would be to play either Rock Am Ring in Germany or Download Fest in the UK. Brandon Ryan says Starland ballroom honestly I’ve gone there to see so many of my favorite bands and it’s just one of those venues I’ve always wanted to play at. Or PlayStation theater that place is just awesome.
8. Your new EP Kold Blooded Volume 1, is part one of a two-part series, why split them up instead of releasing one full record?
The way the music industry is going nowadays people like to have constant content, so spreading out the music gives everyone something to look forward to. Plus people’s attention spans can’t see to last through a whole album anymore sadly.
9. Is there anyone on the dream list to collaborate with musically?
Working with Corey Taylor would be an amazing dream collaboration. Fun fact he owns one of our first ever shirts back when we were called “Kold Blooded”. Brandon Ryan said I’d say Derek Discanio from State Champs just because of how much of an inspiration he is to me and because he just knows how to write a good song not just vocal parts too.
Brandon Ryan ads, Yes I think it 100% should be talked about not even in just songs in general. I’ve written many songs about me dealing with my own depression and many other artists have too I know Mike has definitely written about some of his dark times also. I think it helps people deal with whatever they got going on when they hear a band that they love singing about the same things their going through.
10. A lot of the new music deals with depression and anxiety, do you feel like writing about it is the best release or best way to deal with it? Have you found any other methods that have been helpful with dealing with heavy emotions and dark thoughts?
It’s been something that’s bothered me for a long time & for the best way to get out of it is by writing music & going to therapy. Those have been my best 2 solutions.
11. When can we expect Kold Blooded Volume 2? What's next after that?
New band members since no one takes this seriously & a lot of shows to make up for time lost that’s happened in the last half year.
12. Anything else to add?
I hope everyone checks out the album! Check out Generation Underground and Nothing Left to Lose. Please, I don’t wanna bag up chicken any longer or delivery Door Dash!
