Interviews: ANONYMUS
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Thrash Metal band, ANONYMUS, from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Actually, we didn't have a hard time getting a band name. Yes, we had a couple of options at
the beginning, but it wasn't very interesting really. And Anonymus came out easily. We didn't
want to have a band name that represents something, like "Death something" or "Black
whatever" or "Mortal something", etc.....and also we didn't want a name just in English so
that's when Anonymus came in. Anonymous in English but we took the "o" out and it became a
kind of Latin word. So we stick to it, way before all this Anonymus (computer and stuff...) came
out!
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We formed the band because we were inspired by bands like Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth,
Anthrax, Testament, etc and even rock bands like Def Leppard, ACDC, Kiss, Van Halen,
Scorpions, Led Zep, etc We just enjoyed the energy and the sound of those bands and also
the songwriting. We wanted just to recreate our sound with all those influences. We were best
friends for a long time and we're always into sports. We just switched to music when we got to
be 14-15 years old. We started with cover songs but we understood very quickly that we
enjoyed much more writing our own stuff.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We know each other from kindergarten and like I said before we're all into sports than music.
We were playing hockey and soccer games whenever we could. Music came later, around 14-
15, and It made us even closer has friends.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Oh my god! I don't want to answer for anybody. I don't have a favorite band, I have a lot of
favorite bands. It depends on my mood or my feelings. And sometimes it's not even a metal
band. So I can't really answer that question.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Obviously the Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, Overkill, we're a big influence
on us as we started. But we always had an interest in listening to the new bands that we're
getting out. Bands like Pantera, Sepultura, Korn, Nevermore, System of a Down, Slipknot
we're also a big influence. And never forget bands more extreme like Suffocation, Deicide,
Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth, Cradle of filth also forge the band identity, that's for sure. We like
everything in metal, not only one genre, that's maybe why we are so open to everything.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was in the province of Québec, Canada in January 2020. And it was the day
before my birthday, well our birthday, has my brother Daniel (guitar player) and I are twins! It
was an awesome night. Great concert but we haven't done any crazy shit after because we
had to go back to Montreal and it was a freakin' snowstorm night!
7. Where would you like to act?
Everywhere! I mean we did a lot of touring through Canada, France, Belgium, Switzerland, and
it's was always wonderful, but we are willing to play anywhere in the world! Really!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Anything with James Hetfield, Tom Araya, Paul Stanley, or Philip Anselmo would be just
awesome! Great vocalists who had done so many classics for me!
9. Whom not?
It's always interesting to play with other musicians, so no one. I mean you learn for everybody!
Even people that are not really inspiring for you, may come with some inspiration for you. Stay
positive!
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
When we started doing concerts when we were all teenagers, yeah we had our loads of puke
with all the stress but I guess we manage the whole thing since the years.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
I like the classic metal, The metal from the end of the “80. Metallica for their songwriting
(Justice...), Slayer for their aggressiveness (Seasons….), Megadeth for the complexity (Rust in
peace), Pantera for the groove (Vulgar…), Iron Maiden for the epic songs (Number….to
Seventh….), Slipknot for the insane side of their music. But for me personally, I like all kinds of
metal from the classic to black, to death, hardcore, power metal, industrial…..if it’s good I don’t
mind!
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Nothing weird at all, really! Yes, we crossed ways with weird people but they never asked us
anything weird. One time, this little teenager ask us to play a song with us in concert, and he
was insisting. We didn't know what to expect but we called him back and said ok let's give it a
try. He came to practice the song during our soundcheck. All his friends we're there, and we
had a talk with everyone. So we did the song and let say he was ready and he played the song
pretty well actually. But at the show, he blows us away by adding a solo of is own in the song.
That was a cool experience and I think we gave him the kick in the butt that he needed to start
his own band.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Without our fans we are nothing, so we pay them a lot of respect, and we are always available
to take a picture or to sign an autograph. And why not, have a little chat! We take the time to
have a talk and shake hands with all our fans, it's always grateful.
14. What do you think of our site?
Very well done. Everything is simple and not complicated at all. Straight to the point and great
design. A lot of information and sample songs keep the visitors interested. I like the pop-up
windows in the menu. Very good job!
15. Something add?
Even though concerts and tours are now cancelled everywhere, don't forget to keep on helping
your favorite bands on any level you may like. Maybe grab some merchandizing on the online
store, share some of their videos on your Facebook or Instagram, or any other social media, or
just send them an email to see what's going on with the band. Believe me, it's always nice to
hear from you! Stay safe my friends and Rock on!
