Interviews: Emerra
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Rock/Progressive Rock band, Emerra, from the Germany. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
We sat down together and discussed a lot of options. We couldn’t find a name that wasn’t already taken,
so we took the name Imerra, which was in the suggestions and changed the I to an E. It doesn’t have a
meaning, but we think it sounds good, haha.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We all come from a metal background, and after trying a soft and straight forward kind of rockband for a
few years, we felt drawn back to a heavier and more progressive style of music. It has just so much more
energy, especially on stage.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Not personally, but we knew from each other because of the former bands.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Fabian: Nothing More
Timo: Architects
Stefan: Dance Gavin Dance, I think, haha.
Max: Periphery
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Max and I, most of the times, just hang out and it can be various situations where we get inspired.
Listening to music, watching live shows, watching a youtube video, drinking wine. Sometimes songs
happen, sometimes not. We don’t try to force it to much.
6. Where was your last gig?
It was a farewell show of a band called „Samsara Circle“ in Düsseldorf, Germany.
7. Where would you like to perform?
Anywhere actually, but sadly that has to wait for after the Covid Crisis.
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
We don’t mind any lineup, it would be a dream to play a show with bands such as Karnivool though!
9. Whom not?
Hard to say, it’s always hard to play with either only soft bands or bands of totally different genre or
lineups that are just a lot heavier than your own band, haha.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I actually have had it lots of times. It always have been situations where I did not feel prepared for what
was coming. Either not knowing every song/lyric by heart or doing something on stage for the very first
time.
Simple things like doing a sound check as a vocalist in front of hundreds of people for the first time is
really challenging, if you’re unsure about singing without the loud noise support of your band.
I can just advise anyone who is starting out to keep practicing and never stop learning in every situation.
It’s a part of growing as a musician. You cannot prepare everything before you experience it for the first
time. But what you can prepare and do, you should.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
For us there are so many inspiring people. From producers, single musicians, bands etc.
We always like to name people like Nolly Getgood, Rabea Massaad, Matt Halpern, Jonathon Deiley or
Jonny Hawkins. But actually the list could go on forever. We look up to so many people, there’s so much
talent you see on the internet.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Nothing weird happened to us yet. We couldn’t be more grateful about any approach by fans of our
music.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Emerra is such a new project, we didn’t make lots of experiences with fans yet. But we got a lot of
positive feedback on social media for our music, so we are always happy about people sharing that with
us.
We’d love to know any person who takes the time listening to our music. If you read this, please don’t
hesitate contacting us regarding anything.
14. What do you think of our site?
We couldn’t be more thankful as a band to be featured on you website! We love every aspect of the music
community and what you are doing with the page is such an important part of all this. Thanks for giving
bands a platform.
