Interviews: Right On Kid
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Pop Punk band, Right On Kid, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
One of our friends had a list of band names in a notebook. I skimmed the list and picked ROK because I thought that it sounded interesting and memorable.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We never really decided that we were only going to play pop punk, we write what sounds good at the time and try not to make song decisions based on what is normal for our genre.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Nick and I (Zach) went to high school together. We would do acoustic sets at school and for other shows at venues around town. We met RJ by playing local shows at a small spot called Duke City Sound and asked him if he wanted to join as a second guitarist. The same goes for Matt and Elijah, they were both playing in other bands around Albuquerque and we all decided to get together and start writing and playing shows.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
RJ – Thrice
Zach – PUP
Matt – A Day to Remember
Nick – The Band CAMINO
Elijah - Akon
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We write songs about past and present experiences mostly. All of our songs are a collective effort, so the lyrical content is open, and anyone can give their input.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was at a local venue here in Albuquerque called Eclipse. It was supposed to be a tour kickoff show, but we had to cancel our tour because of COVID-19
7. Where would you like to act?
We would love to get the opportunity to play more shows in the Midwest, especially Chicago.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We love working with other musicians, so if you’re in a band that wants one of us to feature in your songs all you have to do is ask!
9. Whom not?
We’re open to working with anybody, except Trapt.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I (Zach) forget lyrics on stage all the time. Confidence is key, give everyone in the room a reason to pay attention to you. I just try to have fun and not focus on nerves, if you are having fun on stage then chances are the crowd will be more likely to have fun as well.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
We’re inspired by a lot of bands across many different genres such as The 1975, Bright Eyes, Code Orange, Halsey, Like Pacific, and The Band Camino.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Our fans are relatively tame, but one time a fan asked if I wanted to meet their parents. I had to politely decline.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They’re the best! We always get great feedback and have noticed that our tours have been getting better every time. If you ever see us setting up or hanging out at a venue, don’t hesitate to come up and say hi!
14. What do you think of our site?
Your site is great! We really like the layout and the questions you’ve asked so far.
15. Something to add?
Check out our latest music video for our song “Cold Again” that we released last week!
