Interviews: Serene Dark
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal/Black Metal band, Serene Dark, from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
The band name was chosen as a group effort, we thought it was a proper portrayal of our music. At times it can be Melodic and “Serene” and at times it can be heavy and “dark” so it was a fitting name for the band.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We have been a band for 15 years and over the course of that time our sound defiantly changed and evolved over time and I am sure it will continue to evolve. We play music we love to play and love to make it the genre just fell into place over time.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Being the only remaining original member of the band, the original line up from 2005 was all high school friends. Over time, as we changed line ups I met the other guys through mutual friends and in the local metal scene. We have had the same line up now since early 2011.
4. Each band member favourite band?
We are not fans of naming bands for the sake of naming them, we love all different types of metal and different bands within the genres and sub-genres. As far as inspiration goes for our band we take a lot of inspiration from bands like Septicflesh, Behemoth, Dark funeral, Rotting Christ but also take inspiration from a number of other bands, there are just far too many to name and far too difficult to choose favourites.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
There are many things that inspire us to write music but the biggest one I would say is just our love for creating music and love for metal music in general. We do not make our music to make money or make a living, this is our passion and we thoroughly enjoy doing it.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig before the COVID-19 pandemic was with Dark Funeral and Belphegor on the Devastation on the Nation tour.
7. Where would you like to act?
We would love to someday get over to the US and further out in our home country of Canada.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We would honestly be honoured to play with any band, and have had the opportunity to play with a lot of our favourite bands, but I personally would love to open for Behemoth or Septicflesh one day.
9. Whom not?
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
In the early years, I had a couple bought of stage fright, alcohol and beer help with that. If you truly love what you are doing, when you finally hit the stage it all goes away and you feel unstoppable, at least in my own opinion I can not speak for the rest of the band.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne really got the whole metal thing going for me when I was a kid. I started discovering other bands and went down the wormhole of the underground metal scene. There are honestly too many for me to name but I will make a shout out to Unearth and the album Oncoming Storm, I heard that album in 2004 and decided I wanted to start up a band of my own.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
There have been a few weird requests, I was asked if I would adopt a fan as my child, that was one of the weirder ones I would say.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Love every single one of them, love the entire metal scene and love the local metal scene here in our home town of Ottawa Canada. Metal fans are the best and make us all feel like one giant community of fans.
14. What do you think of our site?
You are part of that metal community and we respect and appreciate having you promote bands, especially underground bands like ours.
15. Something add?
Our new album “Enantiodromia” comes out July 17th and we are very excited to share it with the world.
