Interviews: Slit Your Gods
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band, Slit Your Gods, from Spain. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or
came out just like that?
O: Well, first of all, we want to thank you the opportunity for letting us be
known through this interview, it´s a true pleasure. The primordial idea was to
create a band in the vein of the old Cryptopsy, but from a personal point of
view, so the monicker had to be related to that. “None So Vile” is my favourite
album of the Canadian masters so far, and so the name suddenly appeared in
my mind. We had a bunch of names more to choose, we voted and finally Slit
Your Gods was born.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
O: We all in the band love death metal since we were teenagers and most of us
have played in brutal death metal bands before, Rod plays with me in
Arthropodal Humanicide, Scrumptious Putrescence and a few bands more,
Jordi is the vocalist of Avgrunn, Roman is well known for his skills in several
brutal bands like Byonoise Generator, Esophageal or Ineffable Demise and Santi
has his own death metal project, which is called Sad Eyes. I think we like to play
brutal death metal because it is very funny and challenging at the same time, it
allows total freedom in terms of composition, influences and of course, speed.
You can never get bored playing this stuff, haha.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
O: Well, Rod and I are brothers and we have played together in a bunch of
bands before. We know Jordi from seeing him on stage with Avgrunn and we
also know Roman because he is the drummer of Esophageal, Byonoise
Generator and Ineffable Demise, among others. We also know Santi from Sad
Eyes; we knew they all were very cool bands. We have met Roman on the last
Byonoise Generator tour in Madrid, along with the rest of the band members
and we also knew Santi in another concert in Madrid. We are sure there will be
more chances for the members of SYG of meeting in person and have a couple
of beers.
4. Each band member favourite band?
O: Spawn of Possession
Rod: Gorgasm
J: Suffocation
Roman: Malignancy
Santi: Cryptopsy
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
O: Personally, I have not written none of the songs of “Dogmatic Convictions of
Human Decrepitude”, I only did and recorded the bass lines, with total
freedom, that said, although I have already composed one new song for the
next album and maybe one or two more should be on the way.
Rod: I think the most important thing is just to do it! Because sometimes you
are thinking all the time how to play this riff, or how to combine this part with
this another part, and this situation can be a uroboric circle. I, personally start
to compose the music, melodies, harmonizations, solos, and so on when I feel
inspired because then everything flows quickly, and when I want to add some
arrangements, solos or twister parts then is when I stop to think about how this
part could be.
Well and answering your question (haha) the most important inspiration for me
is the annihilation of a big part of the human face and religions.
J: Hate, the songs talk about hatred of God, Religions and especially the
Christian. On how the human being surrenders to them without stopping to
think, the fear and ignorance behind them. From the interpretations that are
given to the word of god, it is absurd to commune with the word of god, while
then doing the opposite. That double standard that some have is absurd.
Roman: I think, I'm usually being inspired by sounds of the different
mechanisms, engines or sounds of the city I live in. It works when I creating my
drum parts for Byonoisegenerator. For Slit Your Gods I was inspired by guitar
parts. I tried to make bright some riffs or accents and trying to make riffs to
sound more aggressive and stronger
Santi: When you've been playing extreme metal for so long, honestly, the riffs
often come out of your fingers directly or into your head. Many times you have
to filter and leave out many ideas because not all of them should be used for a
project with a specific direction. The same music inspires me to write music, it
feeds me and I feed it back.
6. Where was your last gig?
O: We haven´t played any gigs at this moment. In the beginning, SYG was born
as a studio project. Rod, Jordi, Santi and I live in different parts of Spain and
Roman lives in Russia, so it´s difficult, but maybe we can play live one day. It
would be a dream come true for us.
7. Where would you like to act?
O: We would like to act in different cities and countries, it´s always fine to be in
new places and meet people who likes your music.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
O: There are many cool bands out there, but it would be awesome to share
stage with monsters like Suffocation, Cryptopsy (of course!) or Gorgasm,
because all of them are, in fact, big influences for the sound of SYG.
9. Whom not?
O: I like to play live with all bands as possible. I only should refuse to play with a
band that didn´t respect human rights.
10. Any of you have ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for
beginners on howto beat that?
O: The first time you jump into a stage is always very hard, no matter how
prepared you are, or how good or passionate are you at your instrument, your
legs will shake. Most of the times I have played in a gig, I become nervous and
impatient. When the shows starts, all things calm and go well. I think is part of
being a musician.
11. What bands have you inspired the most?
O: I think Cryptopsy, Suffocation and Gorgasm are the main influences of SYG.
12. What´s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
O: As I said, we haven´t played any gigs until now. Let´s see in the future…
13. What do you think of your fans?
O: SYG is a new band that is about to release their first Ep “Dogmatic
Convictions of Human Decrepitude” the 11 th September, so this is only the
beginning. I think that with the great support and experience of Comatose
Music, our work can achieve more recognition the underground scene. Death
metal fans are probably the craziest and coolest music fans in the world. We´ll
try to make things the best we can and enjoy our music as much as possible.
14. What do you think of our site?
O: To be honest, I didn´t know your site until I received your interview. Then, I
visited your web and it´s really awesome, you can find tons of information
about bands news, biographies and more. It will become one of my
favourite sites for sure, a great discovery!!!
15. Something to add?
O: Thank you for your time and this interview!!!As I said before, our debut Ep
“Dogmatic Convictions of Human Decrepitude” will be released on 11 th
September by Comatose Music, and you can´t expect nothing except brutal
death metal with intention, nice gutturals and tons of blast beats!! We hope
that true fans of death metal will love it as we have enjoy making this. Cheers!!!
