Interviews: Arch Echo

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal band, Arch Echo, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name?

We actually spent a lot of time when we first started not being able to come up with a name that we all liked and that wasn’t cheesy. In the end we like that Arch Echo is a bit ambiguous and we trusted in time that people would just associate our music and sound with the words.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We’ve all been fans of bands in the genre for years now, some of us all the way back to middle school. Being a fan of progressive music often leads to wanting to play or write music that inspires others as you were inspired. Hopefully over time you can grow to have your own sound and niche within what’s already a bit of a niche genre.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Four out of five of us went to college together at Berklee College of Music. A few of us were in another band as well together, so yes there were at least three to four years of getting to know each other before Arch Echo was a thing.

4. Each band members favourite band?

Joe Calderone (bass): Rush

Joey Izzo (keys): Rush

Adam Rafowitz (Guitar): Return to Forever

Adam Bentley (Guitar): The Midnight

Richie Martinez (Drums): The Mars Volta

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

For me, a period of not writing tends to really make the itch build up. Experiences like tour where you see lots of new things and get super inspired by fun show helps a lot as well.

6. Where was your last gig?

We finished a tour with Periphery and Plini in New York City this past February.

7. Where would you like to perform?

We’d love to get to a few cool places that we haven’t been to. Australia and New Zealand come to mind. For some reason we still haven’t played Seattle so that’s got to happen at some point.

8. Whom would you like to play shows with?

We’ve been fortunate to tour with some of our favorite bands but there’s always more. Devin Townsend, Haken, Animals as Leaders, The Aristocrats, Chon… so many more really.

9. Any of you suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I suffer more from it if I’m not prepared. If you’re going to try your hand at performing you should definitely know your material inside out and maybe have a practice run in front of someone you know so the feeling isn’t completely foreign.

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

I always go back to Rush. They built an empire off of being unapologetically themselves while truly remaining good friends and people. You can’t ask for more than that in a career.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing too strange yet. I get lots of requests for sheet music but that’s not weird at all.

12. What do you think of your fans?

Mostly all of them are quite pleasant and very enthusiastic about music. We’re still getting to know a lot of them on the road. They really enjoy this genre as a community and want to see it grow, so that’s really cool.

13. Anything else you’d like to add?

We hope you all enjoy the new tunes! We’ll play them on the road for you as soon as it's realistic and safe. Be well!
