Interviews: Awaken

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Rock/Hard Rock band, Awaken, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Chad Griffin: We had just changed our name we had to a longer name with the word Awake in the title when we met up with new members and the person designing merch suggested shortening and we liked the idea of something that was 1 word and stood out with a powerful message to itself and it stuck.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Chad Griffin: It’s a combination of a lot of influences we had personally and it’s the fitting style we like to play and sing along to. We like switching back and forth from the heavy riffs to the calm melodies. We like the diversity and dynamics of it all.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Chad Griffin: 2 of us did, the drummer (Jimi) met us when we formed and Chase (bassist) joined a few years after meeting us on the road from his previous band, The Protest

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Chad Griffin: I can say for 2 of us it’s Sevendust. As far as the other 2 I would guess Living Sacrifice and Tool but that would be a guess for them, ha.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Chad Griffin: Anything and everything. I like to find a central subject and kind of branch out to general ideas. That way I can have a certain thing I’m focused on and bring in other topics the listener can relate to with that subject.

6. Where was your last gig?

Chad Griffin: A local place in our hometown was last o remember before all the virus stuff hit months back.

7. Where would you like to perform?

Chad Griffin: We aren’t picky, ha. We would settle for Madison Square Garden. 

8. Whom would you like to tour with?

Chad Griffin: So much to list, ha 10 Years Sevendust Breaking Benjamin The Protest Skillet Anberlin Demon Hunter the list goes on...

9. Whom not?

Chad Griffin: We probably have our personal lists in our heads but would rather not mention. We respect anyone we can and would give anyone a chance. We’d rather not start a beaf that isn’t worth starting. Wouldn’t want to put down anyone. I think it’s safe to say you wouldn’t see us tour with Cardi -B , but we just have no need to mention the negatives.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Chad Griffin: When I first started I turned sideways to the crowd cause I had to see the band when I sang. That was at the very beginning. I’d tell people ya just gotta let loose. Feel your passion and sell it. Give it 100 every moment. It’s worth it.
