Interviews: Brave The Cold

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal/Hardcore/Grindcore project, Brave The Cold, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Brave The Cold became a song title around 2012 when I ventured out into the cold rain and wind Christmas eve. I thought it’d be a better name for the band but I recorded the song as well, which will be released eventually.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

From a very young age I was inspired by the evolution of guitar based music. By age 14/15 metal had clearly progressed my only goal was to combine my influences to break down barriers and combine style into a genre that did not exist yet.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, Dirk & I met a few times over the years.. He was always so friendly, nice, talented, humble & ambitious. It was truly a pleasure working together venturing into the unknown from our underground influences combined.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Hehe, I’m sorry, that’s impossible to answer because we admire so many bands from different eras, styles, genres but BTC was a combination of our love for late 80’s extreme metal and hardcore with some modern elements I seldom see in recent years.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I suppose I’m inspired both musically and lyrically by life in general, random daily events, current events and the urge to create something to create a better world, even if that only results collective thought connected in concept, ethics, morals, theories, lifestyles, free thought and live performance physical exchanges..

6. Where was your last gig?

NAPALM DEATH at Housecore Horror Film Festival, Austin, Tx. October 25, 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IayI0- Hi4I&ab_channel=roio420

7. Where would you like to perform?

South America, Russia, Europe, USA, Indonesia, Japan, Australia, South Africa, Canada, China and The Moon.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Metallica, Obituary, Behemoth, Carcass, Municipal Waste, Cattle Decapitation, Cannibal Corpse, Black Dahlia Murder & many more.

9. Whom not?

I’m open to most extreme bands metal & hardcore including festivals featuring varied styles of music.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I often had stage freight especially in home town shows with friends and family. It’s always busy before and after shows to spend time with everyone but at the end of the day we have to play and do our best as any other night. My tip would be for bands to do their own line check before the show to make sure that everything (sound/monitors/instruments, water, towels etc) is in place then the rest can happen naturally without fear. I stopped having nightmares after doing that every night. Without relying on crew to set the stage. DIY has it’s plus points.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The Scarcity album has a wide array of influences. Mostly early albums of bands like Celtic Frost, Cryptic Slaughter, Death, Voi Vod, Slayer, Exodus, Possessed and many, many more.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A few people took my shoelaces during our first show in Budapest Hungary once around 1991. I stood there playing at front of stage wondering what they were doing, then my shoes kept falling off until the next day, It was very surreal.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I prefer the word community because we have spent our youth together. We evolved together, it’s a collective singularity that adapted to a lifestyle after years of growth, support, good times, bad times, and t’s family for life. We shared a world without boundaries, no limits to culture or language barriers. Music is its own language that continues to bond people without limitation, beyond the physical expression of every day life.

14. What do you think of our site?

Great work & thanks for your support! Keep pushing! The scene needs support now more than ever!

15. Something add?

Thank you all so much for your time and interest. Please check out Brave The Cold - Scarcity. It has been a fun journey so far. It’s an important part of our life and I hope it enters your world.
