Interviews: Nautical Mile

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Pop Punk  band, Nautical Mile from Australia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Caleb came up with the name. He’d been in a previous band called Desolation Nightmare and had been laughed out of the room when he’d suggested the name Nautical Mile. He bought it to us, determined to make it work, and we never looked back.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

It’s the music we all enjoy playing and listening to. We all grew up listening to pop-punk and post-hardcore (myspace ftw) so it was only natural that this is what we fell into playing and writing. We play the music we would love to listen to.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Caleb’s brother and Brodi went to school together so they knew each other in passing, but the rest of us all met in the band. We got together on a musicians Facebook group and it’s been going ever since.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Caleb: A Day To Remember

Brodi: Bullet For My Valentine

Nick: Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!

Jake: Architects

Dan: Blink 182

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We want to write the music that we ourselves would love to listen to. We’re inspired to write music that we both love listening to and playing, and we always try to challenge ourselves to play new and interesting things.

6. Where was your last gig?

Amplifier Bar in Perth, WA

7. Where would you like to act?

We’d have loved to play Warped Tour but we’d settle for Download or Slam Dunk these days

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

A Day To Remember is the obvious choice for all of us, that would be a dream come true for all of us

9. Whom not?

Anyone who is a shitcunt basically. If they’re not interested in being inclusive and supporting equality, we’re not interested in being associated with them.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Caleb: Nerves can get to you if you challenge yourself to perform to your best. Remembering you’ve practiced for this and knowing that you’ve practiced as well as you can helps immensely. Practice, practice, practice and warming up makes a huge difference. Jake: Sinking a couple of tins usually takes care of it for me

Nick: Liquid courage has always gone a long way from me

Dan: I don’t get stage fright because I’m pretty comfortable that I can’t possibly look any more stupid. I was always a bit of a class clown so it never really bothered me.

Brodi: I sang the words to I Write Sins Not Tragedy wrong on national television - everything else kinda pales in comparison.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

A Day To Remember, Sum 41, Blink-182. Take Off Your Pants And Jacket is, in Dan’s opinion, the absolute forefather of all modern pop-punk records. Homesick was for all of us the pinnacle of pop-punk meeting post-hardcore.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Someone once asked for the shirt Brodi had worn at a show in Sydney that they’d attended. He’d been wearing it for about a week beforehand so that was a bit odd.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We are so incredibly grateful for anyone who streams, downloads or gives our music any sort of consideration. We’d be nowhere without our fans and we can’t wait to get back out on the road and meet you all.

14. What do you think of our site?

We love what you’re doing for the scene and the promotion and airtime you give to bands who truly deserve it.

15. Something add?

Thanks to everyone who’s been with us on the journey so far and we can’t wait to share what we have coming up with you all.
