Interviews: Old Cross
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Punk band, Old Cross from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name?
Chris: There's an old cross on the side of a dirt road in my hometown that stands where we lost one of our best friends. To me it signified loss and change and
the image of it haunted me for a long time until I somewhat came to terms with it. It represents a good amount of our lyrical content still to this day and of course pays tribute to one of our favorite
people. It doesn't tie to anything religious, crosses are just such a powerful symbol it seemed right for what it represented to us, an homage to a great friend.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Chris: I guess punk rock was the type of music that always inspired me, so it's what I decided to play.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Chris: Cassidy and I have been playing in bands together since around 2006. He's also my son's godfather! We met Dylan when we started playing in Portland at Twilght in 2016 I believe.
4. Each band member’s favourite band?
Chris: AFI
Dylan: Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes
Cassidy: AFI
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Chris: Just going through the motions in life. It's my outlet, I have to write songs or I start going a little nuts.
6. Where was your last gig?
It was Salem at The Space. Super rad spot!
7. Where would you like to perform?
Overseas! Europe.. Japan, Australia! We're working on it!
8. Whom would you like to tour with and why?
Chris: Spanish Love Songs because I miss them! But yeah, maybe some Fat bands they seem like a lot of fun on tour.
9. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Dylan: Umm I suffer stage fright anny time I play! When I have stage fright I tell myself the people in the crowd are just as nervous as you are, do the best you can to show them these awesome songs you have been working on!
Chris: I know what not to do and that is drink too much before you go on. That does not help haha! I haven't gotten stage fright in a long time fortunately, but I used to go in the van
and listen to music right before our set to calm my nerves.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Chris: Lately, I'm really inspired by Ryan Bingham, Shai Hulud, and War on Women.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked of you?
One dude found out where are house was, took a picture of it and messaged us on FB the picture of our house asking if we wanted to hang out. haha
