Interviews: The Reasons Why

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Grunge/Rock band, The Reasons Why from Australia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Scotty: I started the band as an acoustic act playing at pubs and stuff. I always wanted to move to a full band, so long story short, Brodie and Shev joined in. As most of the songs were written by me it was called “Scott Bell and The Reasons Why”, But it became much more of a band dynamic and we dropped the “Scott Bell” part and became just “The Reasons Why”. So, it kind of just happened. We never really put much thought into the name to be honest.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Shev: I grew up in the 90s listening to Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains etc, so I always had that sound floating around my head, and when I started to write music, it was the same sort of sound, like a really natural process.

Scotty: I just love filthy rock! But similar to Shev!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Scotty: Brodie and I knew each other from our acoustic band. Shev and Paul had a metal band and grew up together. Mine and Shev’s path crossed when we were having fun in a power metal band, But it was kinda shit, so I asked Shev to join the reasons why and eventually Paul joined on guitar later on. Locky joined last about 2 years ago, we needed a solid bass player and Locky had done some tours with a pop punk band. Shev knew Locky from his work and asked him to join up. So, we all have ties, so we never had to do the advertising thing.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Shev: Paul is a Metallica freak, no doubt there haha! For me, Metallica, Alice in Chains, Pantera anything hard rock/metal works for me.

Scotty: I don’t really have a favourite band, I almost have a new favourite every week. Fairly sure Locky loves his Madonna! Lol!!! I’m sure Locky is the same as me, we often trade bands we are listening too.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Shev: Music inspires me to play music! like a dog chasing its tail!

Scotty: for me, it’s a cathartic process, lets me get shit off my chest and helps me feel a little more sane. I also kind agree with Shev! I love writing…just cause I can! I love the process and surprise around every corner when I write a song.

6. Where was your last gig?

Shev: Stanford hotel in Rowville Victoria.

Scotty: Shame it was a shit gig too, then Corona got its hooks in. it was a Friday night, we were stuffed from work and the beers were just going down too well!

7. Where would you like to perform?

Shev: Madison square gardens. Massive place, Massive sound!

Scotty: The CBGB 100% Just to be on the same stage as so many of my dols!

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

Scott: Alice in chains 100%

Shev: Got a few in mind, but I would love to play with Pantera!

Scotty: I would love to play an acoustic set with Chris Cornell before he passed!

9. Whom not?

Shev: U2, the most overrated band in my opinion or fucking Coldplay!

Scotty: Anything modern Britt rock/pop like Oasis, Blur, Artic Monkeys. Its all the same shit to me. And ill back up Shev on Coldplay, I would happily go to prison just to punch that idiot! Whats his name? the lead singer? Cocknose?

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Shev: Not really, Not that I can remember? A couple of beers always calms the nerves. But my excitement and love for playing live always outweighs my anxiety.

Scotty: Nah, maybe when I first started?? But playing live is about having fun and doing what you love, so my advice for newbies? Fuck it! just have fun! Music is about doing what you love and expressing yourself, people are always gonna love it or hate it, so my theory is fuck em! Do what you want!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Shev: Nirvana for me, it was the first band I got into. Watching Dave Grohl just blew me away. I knew from then onwards I wanted to be a drummer.

Scotty: For me, honestly it was matchbox 20 and the post grunge movement. Then I started going back to like the 70s and moving through the decades, so I can’t say one in particular, but it’s probably Jerry Cantrell from Alice in chains on the frontline of my inspiration.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Scotty: Shev and I were loading our gear into our cars after a show and this guy asked us if we wanted to go back to his house for a spit roast. We respectfully declined but thanked him for buying some merch. That didn’t really….. or did it?

13. What do you think of your fans?

Shev: To be honest, we have had a solid fan base since day one. They always come out to shows and show lots of support. They are just a great bunch of people. We usually finish a show and join them all for beers afterwards.

Scotty: Yeah, Gotta agree with Shev, We have a really supportive fanbase and that really drives us to play as much shows and release as much material as we can for them!

14. What do you think of our site?

Scotty: its pretty cool! I love that there is still a place for rock and metal! Anyone keeping the scene alive in my book is awesome!
