Interviews: ALLEYWAY
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal/Rock/Speed Metal band, ALLEYWAY from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
We made a list of names and Alleyway was the one we picked.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We all like metal and punk rock and we had never played in a band exactly like that before.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, Dave and Nick were in a band together at the time Alleyway was formed and Andy and Nick had wanted to start a band a few years before Alleyway.
4. Each band member’s favourite band?
Nick: I don’t know if they’re my favorite because that keeps changing, but I’ve been listening to Judas Priest a lot lately.
Andy: My favorite band changed a lot since I was a kid. I was really into Mötley Crüe, then Sonic Youth was great, because they had melodies and crazy stuff going on. Nightwish has been my favorite band for the last 19 years now.
Dave: The Germs, because they wanted to be punk. They started out being horrible, but in three years they put out one of the best punk albums of all time and Joan Jett produced it.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Nick: I have always written songs ever since I was young. It’s just something I’ve always liked to do. I’ve written and recorded a lot of songs that never got used for a band or anything just because it was fun to do.
Andy: For Alleyway it’s just our vibe, our heavy metal nature to party, so that influences me. I like to party hard. My other band, Upon Extinction is more nature/humanity based. We just write songs about human nature from now to stuff that happened 2000 years ago.
6. Where was your last gig?
The Cold Shot in Appleton, WI with Olórin, Crown of Contempt and Re-Tox AD (Dave’s new project) on February 29, 2020.
7. Where would you like to act?
I would like to go on tour again, especially to another country. I would like to play Mexico again. We’d love to tour Europe. I (Andy) go to Wacken and other festivals every year. It would be great to play to a crowd of hungry metal heads there that are passionate about metal.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Any metal band for any show would be great at this point. It would be awesome to play a big festival like Wacken or Keep It True. I’d love to share the stage with Airbourne or Bullet from Sweden.
9. Whom not?
I would not want to play a show that had no other metal bands or fans of metal there. Any bands that are very egotistical is a turn off for me. I don’t understand why being in a band is competition.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Nick: I’m always a little nervous, but after a few beers that feeling will go away.
Andy: Of course. It gets better with time. Knowing your songs inside and out helps a lot. Then you don’t have to think so hard about what you are playing. A few beers helps too. The biggest part to me is the crowd. If they are just standing there, it seems like you are trying to make a name for yourself. If the crowd is into you then it feels so good.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Nick: I’m most inspired by all the older bands that are still doing it and have not changed their sound or attitude. That is what I want for this band.
Andy – For me it’s always the smaller bands that inspire me. Bands like Bewitcher and Midnight. You meet them and become friends like Bewitcher. They started getting attention and it makes you feel like we can do it too.
12. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Nick: I can’t think of anything weird they have asked for, but one time I asked all the fans to autograph my shirt and everyone thought that was weird.
Andy – My autograph. No one has asked me for anything.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Nick: I love them all and I appreciate and welcome all their support.
Andy – I appreciate every single one and will do my best to talk to them all if I can. They are what keeps me going. We play music for ourselves, but also for them.
