Interviews: Perduratum
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal band, Perduratum from Mexico. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like
that?
Ahijado:
Like most bands, we come from projects that for various reasons have not managed to
mature, however, when you have fire in your blood and it boils with music, you have no
choice but to endure over time and mix in the different spaces and minds that converge
on music and message, we come from different temporalities, we come from different
places, but we are the ones who follow this path of artistic creation, and we want to leave
our part of the musical legacy of humanity. Perduratum comes from Latin and means
among other things: endure with integrity, harden, remain. Therefore the etymological
concept of this term is 'to remain indefinitely'. That is why we think that this concept
represents us as individuals and as a band that wants to spread a message of open
thought accompanied by aesthetics, that is how we made the decision to adopt the name
of 'PerduratuM' for the band.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Ahijado:
There are occasions when we think that it is not you who chooses it, the genre chooses
you, and when it does it is because you are the indicated means by which it can transmit
emotion, passion, energy, feelings, poetry, virtue, among other things, and because you
are able to encompass everything in a concept that seeks to express different disciplines
in a fraction of time and sound, which may seem like only an instant, but is backed by
many hours of composition, a lot of reading, many hours of mixing, many hours review, to
finally offer a product that tries to earn a place in the history of this genre.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Ahijado:
It is until this band that the five of us met, most of us had a friendship relationship for
years before forming the band. Me, James and Diego Cholula on the one hand, and also
Diego Cholula with Aruh on the other hand; The person who arrived once we had started
the band and we were in the process of writing was Edgar Butanda, he was incredibly
integrated in that stage. We have a great formula here.
4. Each band member favorite band?
Wow, very difficult question, can we say Perduratum? Hahaha, let's to do the next, here
are the principal influence and the band most listening by us right now
Diego Cholula: Dream Theater and Leproues
Ahijado: Dream Theater and Distorted Hamony
Aruh: Dream Theater and Northlane
Edgar
Butanda: Haken and Daft Punk
James: Helloween and Soen
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Diego Cholula:
Musically our influences and musical tastes, there begins the passion for this artistic
universe. Then comes the desire to do something of your own, the singular. In progressive
metal, being able to experiment with so many styles and feelings is fascinating. At a
semantic level, books, experiences, what we were given the most to express with music
and poetry, metaphorical writing. One comes to music or any other artistic space because
conventional forms of expression are not enough, because there is something that is not
satisfied with ordinary or light expressions. Perduratum seeks to leave a mark in this
sense, creating a particular way of expressing what is unique to this crossing of worlds.
Each of us is motivated by reasons that we do not fully understand but that shake us up.
And in this space, we have found a room to skirt the ineffable.
6. Where was your last gig?
Mexico City, Queretaro, Salamanca.
7. Where would you like to act?
Diego Cholula:
Red rocks, Wacken Open Air, ProgPower USA, 70,000 Tons of Metal, Full Metal Cruise,
Cruise to the Edge and to many places.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Ahijado:
With any band that together we can connect with people who want to spend an incredible
day with us.
9. Whom not?
Ahijado:
With bands that do not want to synergize with us to offer a great show.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to
beat that?
Ahijado:
Of course it happened to all of us, however the internal strength and the desire to be on
stage was greater, if that happens to you at some point, you just have to close your eyes
and be clear about how much you want to be on stage the rest of your life ?, believe me
that answer will clear your mind.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Diego Cholula:
Dream Theater, Helloween, Northlane, Haken, Symphony X, Tesseract, Leprous, Circus
Maximus, Seventh Wonder, Metallica, Voyager, Opeth, Soen, Gojira, Monuments,
Kamelot, Radiohead, Pagan’s Mind, Muse…
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Ahijado:
I can remember a guy after a show asking how long I've played guitar, my answer was,
dude, I don’t remember how long, but today I played de bass.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Diego Cholula:
In general, I think that the progressive metal public lives with madness from another side,
a warmer or also dramatic one. They are people with a peculiar sensitivity to nuances,
atmospheres, experimentations and abstractions. I think they are sensitive to other things
that most people are not aware of on a day-to-day basis, perhaps because the speed of
time nowadays does not allow it, perhaps the requirement is different. They appeal to the
subversive and anachronistic in a more mechanized world.
14. What do you think of our site?
Diego Cholula:
Something simply necessary. Metal and independent bands have a difficult job if they
want to reach a lot of people, spaces and media like this give the possibility to millions of
artists. A place with a great image, with projection, and that houses bands with such fresh
proposals, for us it is a respite.
15. Something add?
Ahijado:
Give us a few minutes of your space and your time to connect with us on this trip, give us
the opportunity to reach your head to touch your heart, Perduratum is a sincere proposal,
not a concept created to sell, with your support we can continue creating what we like to
do the most, music from the soul. Thank you.
