Interviews: Lure In
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Chaotic Metalcore band, Lure In from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Cam: The name of the band came after we finished our first EP, me (Cameron) & our
bassist Jonny where trying to find a name that fit with the lyrical themes of the record, to
which the record was a concept record about a cult leader, & we where looking for a name
that didn't already exist for a band, as we had many friends bands end up sharing Spotify
pages with bands that had the same name, from that the name Lure In stuck.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Cam: The band was started by myself & Jonny, to which we where massive fans of bands
like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Every Time I Die, Underoath, & pretty much any band
that's doing the more noier style of metalcore to their contemporaries & we wanted to join
in & make music that's inspired by the bands that we look up to with our own little twist.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Cam: So I personally knew everyone bar our drummer Sammy, I went to school with
Jonny & Jake & I ran into James at alot of shows in Manchester, with Sammy he was in a
band with one of my friends & he showed Sammy the record & since then we've all got on
like we all knew eachother from the off.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Cam: for me I can't narrow an exact favorite band but I'd definitely say it's between
Daughters, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Every Time I Die, Dance Gavin Dance, The Armed
& Underoath
James: Vein, Turnstile, Gorilla Biscuits, Meshuggah, Yoasobi and Northlane.
Jake: Vein, Slaughter To Prevail, Traitors, Knocked Loose.
Jonny: The Dillinger Escape Plan, Biffy Clyro, Reuben, Glassjaw, Frank Carter and The
Rattlesnakes, Underoath, Renounced, Ithaca, Wu Tang Clan, Brockhampton, Zoax &
Heck
Sammy: Radiohead, One Down, Blood Incantation, Primus, A Tribe Called Quest, Public
Enemy, Gang Starr, Mobb Deep, Title Fight, Turnstile, Prong, Fishbone, Faith No More,
N.W.A, Compton's Most Wanted.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Cam: It's a mix of what we are currently listening to & what we've grown up listening too,
there's quite a few to name but for example, I've always been a fan of the PC Music label
& in particular an artist named Sophie, with traditional metalcore no one would even try to
incorporate anything coming from the pop music scene but I was inspired to incorporate
sounds found in Sophie's songs to blend into our own, & that's the same with most of our
songs, it depends on what we're listening to.
6. Where was your last gig?
Cam: Our last gig was at the Alma in Bolton around March 2020 time, sadly Jake & Jonny
had to sit it out as life got in the way however it was a fun show, we had our friends in
Malign, Asleep At The Helm & Ligature (They now go under Final Words) on the bill, so we
definitely went out on a high note, but we're super excited for when we can get back
amongst it.
7. Where would you like to perform?
Cam: 100% pretty much anywhere outside the north west, the dream is to one one get
some shows abroad & possibly get going in the states but for the short term for when we
get back we just want to play anywhere & everywhere.
8. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat
that?
Cam: for bands I'd we really want to perform with I'd say Pupil Slicer, Death Goals,
Hidden Mothers, Dxwnsides, Deter, Ithaca, Geist, Sense Offender, Renounced, Cruelty &
Red Shores.
All bands we haven't played with yet & we are ready & keen to get something going with
em.
I know with our first run of shows I felt quite nervous myself, especially as it was my first
time doing vocals live, but the advice I'd give is the more & more you do it, the more
confident you will get, so just keep at it.
Jonny - Use the stage as a place to vent. Perform with all that got, it's just you and your
people with you
It's your chance to live as you truly are with all your feeling and cathartic energy, Let it all
hang out, you'll be okay.
9. What bands have inspired you the most?
Cam: I mentioned it before but definitely the bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Every
Time I Die, Underoath, & alot of 2nd wave early 00's metalcore, aswell as our current
listening habits.
10. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Cam: We're quite thankful in regards to fans because we've never really had any weird
encounters with any, the only thing I can think of is there's a small percentage of people
who make jokes about a certain song which shall not be named here & it's been ruining my
life since 2019
11. What do you think of your fans?
Cam: I'd say I'm honestly happy they see our vision of what music is, bare in mind alot of
people who do like us are in that same mindset of creating out the box stuff with creativity
at the fourth front, I'm just happy there's a community of people who understand the same
things as we do.
12. What do you think of our site?
Cam: it's a really cool thing y'all have got on, I saw some bits on the site for bands like
Needle Play, Geisterfahrer, & Fawn Limbs who are some of my favourite modern bands at
the moment so it's cool to see bands like that get some love.
13. Something to add?
Cam: we just released our brand new split record with the band Worm Hero, aswell as a
short film that is scored by our side of the split it's out now on all major dsp's so definitely
get on it if anything we've spoken about has you interested.
